Sentencing delayed for Missouri woman in MySpace hoax

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles federal judge has delayed the sentencing of a Missouri mother for her role in a MySpace hoax directed at a 13-year-old neighbor girl who ended up committing suicide.

U.S. District Judge George Wu on Monday rescheduled Lori Drew's sentencing to July 2.

The judge says he wants to review some testimony by prosecution witnesses. He did not rule on a defense motion to dismiss Drew's convictions on three misdemeanor counts of accessing computers without authorization.

Prosecutors say Drew sought to humiliate young Megan Meier by helping create a fictitious teen boy on the social networking site and sending flirtatious messages to the girl in his name.

The fake boy then dumped Megan in a message saying the world would be better without her. She hanged herself a short time later in October 2006.

I'm curious of how the sentencing will go. I can't believe an adult and a parent would do that to a child. Awful.

She should get life for what she did. I didnt read through the entire thread but I hope her kids were taken away and put in foster care, maybe then they could feel uncomfortable in their home, kinda like they made Megan feel.

What a sick person to torment a little girl that she knew had depression. I hope she enjoys the hate that will be thrown to her and her family the rest of their lives.

One of the most awful things I have read in a long time! What a horribly vicious thing to do. These people need to suffer for the rest of their lives!

Oh GOD. The world is seriously falling apart. I really hate people sometimes because they do dumb sh*t like this. Honestly, that Drew b*tch has a daughter the same freakin' age. How would she feel if her daughter was in Megan's position? And it'd be one thing if she didn't know Megan's emotional state, but she was around the poor girl and knew EXACTLY what kinds of things she was struggling from, so to still torment her poor soul is just sick!!! For Christ's sake. I could just cuss up a storm right now!

I live in StL, about 20 minutes away from where this all occurred and there is not a sentence harsh enough for this woman. She needs to be the precedent for future cases. She committed fraud, fraud that cost a girl her life. How that is not outright involuntary (or even voluntary) manslaughter is disgusting.

Not really, at least not that has been all over our local news yet. I think really at this point their lives are so destroyed, so ruined, that whatever sentence she gets isn't going to do much of anything.

The fact that Lori Drew shows (nor has she ever shown) a shred of remorse or regret and is PROUD of what she did is pretty ridiculous. She's cost herself her career, and yet it's "not her fault", but it doesn't register with her that not only should it cost her her career, it should cost her WAY more. She's a parasite. She and Christopher Coleman can and probably should share a jail cell.

Such a sad case, and that Drew woman looks to be a complete psychopath - no empathy at all for the poor dead girl or her family.

Ok a friend of mine in law enforcement just told me that it's unlikely she will serve anytime unless the judge decides that she's clearly not shown remorse in this case.

I can believe an adult would do this to a child considering how immature some adults are. We have too many adults running around acting like children. No grown woman could have interested in the conversation of two teenage girls after learning what their spat was all about. But until we have stronger laws regarding this kind of behavior sadly there may be another case such as this one in the making somewhere as we speak. There is no real punishment for people who harass and stalk others. Too many take this behavior to be something chic or even funny and think it is cute. Never stopping nor caring what damage it may do another's life. Any other situation if you drive someone to commit suicide and the authorities can prove it, you can go to jail for murder so I don't see how this case is any different.
