A man murdered in a stabbing in downtown Vancouver early Sunday was kicked in the head by his killer as he fled, witnesses told Global TV.
The 25-year-old victim was apparently alive when police arrived, but soon succumbed to his injuries.
"We had a police unit actually in the block at the time of the event," said Insp. Eric Grummisch. "When he arrived, first aid was being rendered to the victim."

The man was stabbed outside the the Atlantis nightclub on Richards Street at about 2 a.m.
Police have not released his name. They would not say if he is known to police or if gang affiliations are suspected.
No one else was injured, but about 10 people are thought to have witnessed the attack, Grummisch said.
A large area around the Atlantis nightclub was cordoned off for much of yesterday as police searched for clues.
"There will be more details forthcoming and they'll be released at the appropriate time," Grummisch said.
"There's no one in custody, and I can't comment on any suspect information on this point."
Watching from behind the yellow police tape Sunday, a neighbourhood resident who asked to be identified only by his first name, Brendan, said police incidents around the club are common.
"It's pretty typical right there," Brendan said, gesturing toward the club. "I walked by here at like 2:30, and there were two police cars up there blocking off the block. But like every Saturday night is usually like that."
He and other residents said they weren't surprised to hear somebody was killed in front of the bar in the primarily residential Yaletown neighbourhood.
"Usually every weekend the cops have the whole block sealed off," Brendan said. "The stereotype would be like an Asian gangster bar, basically. A lot of Asian gangs go there."
Atlantis bills itself as a Saturday--night hotspot.
"Vancity's longest running Saturday night hip hop party just keeps getting better and better every week," the club says on its website. "Packing the club every week for more than four years now.
"'Destination Saturday' still remains the only place to party on the weekends. Have doubts? Well, just look at the block long lineups on a Saturday night."
Answering a call placed to a number for Saturday night reservations, a man who identified himself as an organizer said the stabbing happened after the club closed, but refused further comment.
Calls to Atlantis management numbers went unanswered.
