I am sure that most people can go elsewhere to get married, but to me it is about equal access to services. What about the people who CAN'T go somewhere else for whatever reason? I firmly believe that if a person cannot fulfill the obligations of their job and follow the LAW instead of their own twisted moral (or immoral) compass, then they should not hold a position that allows them to decide important issues for other people.

I'd take this a step farther and point out that MOST people in the South and America as a whole do not feel this way (especially people with enough education to have a lot of influence). Thankfully, I guess, this guy - with his level of education and influence - sounds like an extreme and an anomaly. I disagree. I don't think he is an anomaly at all. The difference is that he is in a position that would result in more exposure of his beliefs. Miscegenation hasn't been legal for that many years in this country. Many people feel the same way that he does.



And I'm not surprised by his attitudes about mixed race children. Even Richard Nixon had disparaging comments to make, saying that mixed race children should be aborted. I will say though that many people DO feel that children of mixed race heritage will have a hard time settling into an identity.
