Thumbs down Drunk Member of Cabin Crew Delays Flight

Link

A holiday flight to Portugal was delayed by over six hours on Sunday when a female cabin crew member turned up drunk and had to be arrested.
Nearly 140 passengers were forced to wait at the Aberdeen Airport for the flight that was to take them to Faro, in Portugal.
The BMI flight was scheduled to depart at 9:00 am, but sources reported that other members of the cabin crew were concerned when they noticed that their 24-year-old seemed to have had too much to drink.
Police from Grampian arrived at the scene and breathalysed the cabin attendant, who was believed to be English. When she failed the test, the officers arrested her.
It took until mid-afternoon before the airline could find another crew member for the flight and Holidaymakers had to wait until 3:30 pm before the Airbus A320 took off.
A report of the incident will be sent to Aberdeen’s procurator fiscal.
A law enforcement spokesman said: “Grampian Police can confirm that they responded to information from staff at Aberdeen Airport and, as a result, a 24-year-old female was subsequently arrested.”
Officials from the Aberdeen Airport commented on the incident: “The airport was made aware of an issue with a member of the cabin crew and the police were alerted. It was unfortunate that passengers were subjected to a lengthy delay.”
BMI also responded to the situation, saying: “We can confirm that a member of the cabin crew was arrested and that we are co-operating fully with the police investigation.”

The stories of anything to do with flights/cabin crew just get even worse. Not only are they making a bad image for themselves but also for the company. Ridiculous.

‘Drink’ drama at Aberdeen AirportPassengers see woman led away

Holiday jet stuck for hours by arrest of cabin crew girl

North-east holidaymakers were stuck at Aberdeen Airport for more than six hours yesterday after police arrested a flight attendant who had drunk too much.
Shocked passengers boarding the plane watched as the female crew member was escorted off it by officers.
The BMI aircraft had been due to leave Aberdeen at 9am, bound for Faro in Portugal’s Algarve region.
But it did not take off until around 3.30pm.
It is believed the flight crew raised the alarm because they suspected a 24-year-old colleague had been drinking.
Police went to Aberdeen Airport and breathalysed the woman before arresting her.
After passengers had sat on the full plane for over an hour, the captain announced that it did not have enough crew to take off as planned.
All 140 passengers were then asked to leave the plane and return to the airport’s departure lounge.
Among those on board was SNP councillor for Aberdeen City Council’s Kingswells and Sheddocksley ward, Wendy Stuart, who was due to leave on a one-week holiday with her husband.
Speaking at the airport yesterday afternoon, she said: “The flight attendant was taken staggering off the plane in full view of everyone, with mascara streaming down her face so we all knew exactly what was going on.
“How could the captain not have noticed the state she was in during the pre-flight meeting? The passengers’ safety could have been seriously jeopardised by allowing her on the plane at all. There are a lot of angry people here.”
Passengers were told that they would be able to board the plane again at 12.30pm once a replacement crew member had been found.
But at 1pm a BMI official announced that the plane could not yet leave as the crew was still unable to fly – further angering the already agitated passengers.
Sandy Lawson, who was flying on holiday with his family, said in the afternoon: “Everyone has been here since seven in the morning, including a lot of families with young children who have been getting upset.”
Flight regulations state that the aircraft – an Airbus A320 – must have six crew members on board before it can take off on any flight.
These are the captain, the co-captain and four additional cabin crew members.
It is understood two cabin crew members were so upset at what had happened they would not get back on the plane and had to be replaced, leading to the further delay.
The passengers finally boarded the plane at 3pm and took off half an hour later.
They were expected to arrive in Faro at around 7pm, more than six hours later than originally scheduled.
A spokesman for Aberdeen Airport said: “We were made aware of an issue with a member of that flight’s cabin crew and are pleased that it has been resolved by police. However, the delay caused to passengers is unfortunate.”
A spokesman for Grampian Police said: “We can confirm that we responded to information from staff at Aberdeen Airport and as a result a 24-year-old female was subsequently arrested.”
A report on the still unnamed crew member, who is believed to be English, is being prepared for the procurator fiscal.
A spokeswoman for BMI said: “We are fully co-operating with police following the arrest of one of our cabin crew members. The safety of our customers is our utmost priority.”

This is ridiculous, all of the passengers were on the plan and saw her being taken off. Then another 2 were so upset they couldn't work, what a farce.

Wow. Is it too much to ask to show up to work sober?
