I've read that stat Roo, and yeah, they lump step-parents in with all parents. I forgot where I read that in a large majority of cases, it was a male step-parent. My apologies if I sounded as ALL step-fathers are bad apples, I didn't mean too. Especially since my son had the most incredible step-father a boy could have.

I would love to know the stats on how many murders of children are caused by a non-biological (to the child) human. Cuz your chart there only adds up to 93%.

Go back to the post I made Nov. 24th, where I said I betcha the step-dad did it. I hate it when I'm right.

Hey Speedy,

Here's the link to those stats, it may answer some of the questions you have.

Thanks! I am always up to being re-educated!

More details continue to come out, such as when the baby was put in the water, ect. I am heart-broken that a parent could allow this, especially when there were loving grandparents. HOW could the shame of giving up a child be worse than murdering her?

I am just glad they finally found her name, and now she can be put to rest.

Was just on the news.... Kimberly, the mother of Riley Sawyer, admits Baby Grace IS Riley and that she and her husband, Royce Zeigler, murdered her back in July.

OMG, I just read what happened to Riley. How can her mother be a monster like that? I don't understand. I can understand about the step dad, maybe he's sick and a monster or something, but the mom, the one who gave birth to her? *shakes head in disgust*
The step dad was throwing her across the room and that's when she hit her head. Is she a ball or something?

I hope they both got the death penalty for this heinous crime!

RIP Riley Ann.

This really reminds of a UK case several months ago- a teenage mum took up with a new partner and within a short space of time her little 4 year old daughter (Letitia Wright) had been horrifically abused by them and was eventually murdered.

It was desperately sad- the police officers involved said they had only seen such terrible injuries before with road crash victims. The mother and partner are now serving life sentences but it doesn't change the fact that an innocent child has experienced such a short and hellish life.

I look at my own children (toddlers) who are cherished and adored and when I compare it to the terrible hand these poor little children have been dealt it makes me so sad. All children should be cherished and adored- it should be their right.

This is so sad. I am shocked and appalled that any mother could do this or let this be done to her little girl. Riley was a beautiful little girl and looks a lot like my daughter who is the same age. It makes me cry. This happened no more that 20 minutes from where I live! What is the world coming to! If she didn't want that poor baby, why didn't she give her up to the grandmother or dad?

I really hope that these people are punished to the FULL extent of the law.. and yes, I know that here in Texas we hand out the death penalty left and right, and for these people it isn't even enough, they get it they will die a nice peaceful death by injection, not the horrible abuse that Riley had to endure!

I am sick, there are too many horrors happening to children. I cannot even express how I feel about this and the other little baby that was raped.

^^^^^

I agree, I am not normally in favour of the death penalty but these two OMG! They went to such lengths to kill this little girl, it wasn't even striking out in a fit of rage, they were determined to kill her. I just abhor these two people right now! I have to stop thinking about what that poor baby suffered!

Well, Texas does have the Death Row, although I think like others, it's on hold for the time. But by the time they go through a trial and all that, it may be back on.

I betcha though, they will cut a deal with the mother to testify against the step-father, if she's already confessing to the details.

I'm having a hard time getting past the fact they felt it was alright to use two leather belts on a two-year old for punishment. I hope they rot.

What a sick sick mother! If she didn`t want her little girl, why not just give her to her dad and grandmother? I have no words to describe what I think of the step-dad and mother now..

(11/26/07) - Eyewitness News just obtained court documents revealing that Riley Ann Sawyers, the little girl thought to have been "Baby Grace" died after a July 24 beating from her mother and stepfather in Spring with leather belts followed by holding her head under water in the bathtub.
Her stepfather then picked 2 year old Riley Ann up by the hair and threw her across the room. Her head slammed into the tile floor.
The details come from an interview her mother gave police on Friday.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

After reading that, I can't wait for the day both of those disgusting excuse for humans are executed. That poor little girl, she was so beautiful. No child deserves such horror and pain.

This is so tragic and my heart is breaking for this precious little angel. I feel so sorry for her father, I live in Ohio and he has been on the news...so sad. I am horrified at the abuse this baby had to endure in her short life, Nd I am shocked that a mother could do this to her child. I have a 3 year old and I cannot fathom anything that she could have done that would warrant a punishment like beatings with a leather belt. I do believe in the death penalty, and I hope these 2 monsters rot...forget the lethal injection, put them in the chair!
