REMINDER: Although there are some political ramifications to this article, PLEASE stay away from discussing politics. It is fine to discuss the health insurance company's policies and also your opinion about health care -- but please don't cross the fine line into political stuff or I'll have to close my own thread! Thanks!

I think what insurance companies need to do is get rid of pre-existing conditions policies. really sad that people are denied care because they're already sick or had something in the past.

Also if a patient's physician deems medication or a procedure is necessary, they should be forced to cover it. What are we paying them premiums every month for if they don't cover us unless they feel like it?

^^ But see - that's just it. On a daily basis I see numerous physicians hanging up the phone on pharmacies and insurance companies....

In their opinions, they aren't practicing medicine anymore. They are practicing "Whatever the insurance company will pay for" .....

I stated before that it's protocol for a few insurance companies to deny your first claim, no matter what. Why? Because the majority of people won't fight it - therefore, no money out of their pockets.

My advice - fight everything! Get it paid for! Say whatever you have to say to get it covered!

ugh just thinking about health care plans make me cringe!

as a lymphoma survivor it really sucks, trying to get health care, much less affordable health care!

I do hope that blue cross gets sued/fined for doing that because it's a sneaky way of getting themselves "unburdened" with patients that really need to health care, leaving them with patients who pay regularly, are relatively healthly = less coverage paid = bigger profits.

as a business that's a no brainer which is why I think the government should at least step in a little and make it so that health care providers are bidding against each other to cover YOU (kind of like contractors placing bids when wanting a government contract to build a highway, building, etc)

also it would be nice if we placed more money into prevenative health care instead of the emrgency room cos it'll be a lot cheaper (for us obviously) to get better at the early stages of the disease or illness rather then waiting until we are on the brink of death!

It's unfortunate that the health insurance industry is a for-profit venture. If it was non-profit and funded appropriately, people would get the care they need and I think that we would see a lot of the catastrophic claims drop off, because people are getting preventative care.
