Airline Sends 10-year-old to Wrong City, All Alone

Elisa Amigo Fox 8 News

CLEVELAND, Ohio--- A young girl boards a flight alone, headed for Cleveland to visit her family, but ends up in the wrong city!

The ten-year-old Boston girl was supposed to fly to Cleveland to spend time with her grandparents and attend a summer camp.

Sunday morning, Jonathan Kamens dropped his daughter Miriam off at the Boston Airport. He walked her to the gate and watched her plane take off.

A few hours later he received a startling phone call from his father-in-law. "Everybody else got off the plane. I was waiting for her to come off and she didn't. I got someone to go on the plane to see what's going on and they said she's not on the plane," said Norman Bresky.

Miriam's family soon found out she was in Newark, New Jersey. Although her parents say they paid an extra $75 for her to be accompanied by airline employees, Miriam ended up in the wrong city.

Continental released a statement saying, "In this case, there were two flights departing simultaneously from a single doorway and miscommunication among staff members resulted in the child being boarded on the wrong aircraft. We are truly sorry for this error and have apologized to the family."

Miriam was eventually re-booked onto another flight. Although she did eventually make it Cleveland later that day, her family is hoping this doesn't happen to anyone else. Copyright © 2009, WJW-TV

The family paid EXTRA to make sure something like this would not happen! I think they're entitled to a refund, honestly.

What parent would allow a 10 year old child to travel by themselves??? A parent should have accompanied their child on the trip.

She wasn't traveling alone, the parents paid a fee to have her accompanied by an airline employee.

Something tells me that had she been alone she might actually have ended up in the right city, lol.

I think they deserve a lot more than an apology.

I totally agree ! I was just going to post this news story with your exact sentiment. I would NEVER send my child on a plane train or anything else without myself or at least a responsible relative. People really surprise me then they are shocked when something happens to their kid, really !

^^ In some respects I agree w/ you, but Continental touts 2 things they perform more and better than any other airlines

1. Transport pets and get them their safely and securely

Can tell you horror stories of dogs they've lost, got out of their cages, went to wrong cities, etc.

2. Transport children/elderly/person w/ diasability that needs monitored/supervised or extra attention

They say they are the best airline to do this. I'm not saying I would put my child (which I have none) on an airline alone but if I was, from their marketing would chose Continental. This is a paid service. I'm sure children of divorce w/ parents that live far apart, this happens more often than we know.

It's the lack of responsibility on the airlines part--If I pay you for a service I expect you to follow through w/ due diligence.
