IDK, this whole thing smacks of "publicity stunt" rather than "paying respects". Interesting that the timing is so close to Halloween. And let's face it---for the times and the circumstances, he did get the "funeral he deserved"--whatever that even means. Don't forget, he was virtually unknown, flat broke, and dead under suspicious circumstances; hardly the pre-requisites for a lot of pomp and circumstance. It sounds like his family had a small, private funeral. It's not as if they chucked him onto a rubbish heap.

Don't get me wrong, Baltimore---knock yourself out. But just because yopu have "ownership" of Poe's earthly remains, doesn't mean you "own" him. He spent far more time here in Virginia than he did in Maryland, and it doesn't sound as if Maryland was especially kind to him. I'm just sayin'.
