ok i just read in another news article that this is the SECOND kid the driver hit?? WTF was she doing driving the bus??

Also, in the video, the driver looks pretty calm IMO.... if i had just hit someone I think I would have been a basketcase. I really hope they get to the bottom of this. Something's not right. This is such a tragedy.

How sad. Poor girl. I hope her family can come to terms with this tragedy.

I don't understand this at all, kids on the bus saw her trying to hang on why didn't they alert the driver?

It didn't say kids on the bus, it said witnesses, which I took to mean people on the street. There's no way a child inside the bus would have been able to see the front bumper of the bus.

That's awful. I've always known that when a kid has to cross the street, usually the driver will give them a nod saying it's okay to cross after checking mirrors and whatnot to make sure there aren't any cars coming. That's how it was from all the buses I've known at least. Just very tragic.

How could this happen?? Doesn't the driver have to put up that stop gate and wait until all the children are out of the street??? Did she just let this kid out and start driving?? Something sound fishy to me.

Oh how sad, but unfortunately it happens all too often.

I was taught as a child to always walk behind the bus and wait after getting off the bus, as the bus driver is always too busy concentrating on pulling out from the bus stop. They weren't looking at where the passengers who had just got off were.

Same here.

Whenever I see a child having to cross in front of the bus or having to cross the street after getting off the bus, it makes me nervous. I feel especially if they are very young children and there is no adult there to take them off the bus directly, so they are just dropped off at the spot.

With smaller bus vans in our local areas, I think the rule is that they have to pick up/drop off on the side its picking up at so the child is never having to cross the road or crossing around the bus to get in/out.
