When to start taking prenatal vitamins

Hi all!

We're not ready to have a baby yet, but I was curious to know if you are actively TTC, should you be taking prenatal vitamins?

I have heard mixed reviews on this.

My OB had me take them 3 months before we started TTC...hope this helps.

I started in March and didn't start TTC until April.

They have done wonders for my nails! They are sooo strong since I've been taking them!

You should start taking them before you get ready to start trying.

My ob/gyn told me to start taking vitamins 1 YEAR before we TTC! It wouldn't hurt. It is like taking a multi...

I'm nowhere near TTC, but I have heard of women taking prenatals just cuz. Do you think that would be ok? The only problem I would have is the size of the pill. I can't swallow big pills to save my life and I'm pretty sure most prenatals are HUGE!

Are you all talking about over the counter prenatals from a drugstore or Rx prenatals? I think drugstore ones are fine, since they are just suped uo multi's but Rx ones aren't because the average woman doesn't need that much iron.

Take them at night before you go to bed, that way they wont upset your tummy!
