Default What to avoid when TTC
Hi,
This is my first thread in this forum (Love it btw). I always posted in the coach section.

I'm tired of playing it cool and thinking that it will happen w/o effort but after 4 years trying we are taking an active approach. DH bought me the ovulation kit. We monitor and chart everything but somehow we overlooked nutrition. As vegetarians we take supplements. We also do daily yoga. The thing is I start my day with a peppermint tea. I also have a papaya shake in the evenings. We'll those are both abortive. What else can I be eating that lowers my chances to conceive? Maybe we can make a mini list. Something so simple can be so helpful.

Good luck ladies. xoxo

I would avoid green tea. It is very bad for developing fetuses and can be abortive. Make sure you are on a good prenatal, and are getting enough folic acid.

I wish you all the best!

I'm veg too and even thou I eat fish once a month Idk what to do w/o my soy. I'm still reading the articles. Some contradictory but... why risk it? There is more info but these are the ones I found useful. It has something to do with a pseudo estrogen hormone and how it affects male babies and their genitalia size.

http://www.becomehealthynow.com/article/soy/1089/

Since veg take supplement I also searched about those and found this answer on Thebump ''The Good
Alfalfa: Full of vitamin K, which helps blood clotting.
Chamomile: Can help ease nausea (always a plus!) and is a natural anti-inflammatory.
Fish Oil: Contains omega-3 fatty acids, and can boost both baby's coordination and mom's mood.

The Bad
Saw Palmetto: May cause hormonal activity, something you probably don't need more of.
Dong Quai: Found to be a uterine stimulant and has relaxant effects... need we say more?
Black/Blue Cohosh: Can induce labor in women who are not fully to term.
Feverfew: A great headache remedy, yes, but since it can cause allergic reactions pregnant women are advised to stay away.

The Debatable
St. John's Wort: Some docs tout it as an alternative treatment for depression, but there's little research to say it's safe for baby.
Red Raspberry Leaf: Richin iron and can decrease nausea, protect against miscarriage and ease labor pains, but some say it isn't safe during the first trimester. ''

The verdict is still out on Soy... some claim that it can raise estrogen levels above the norm. Funny, they were talking about it on The View this morning.

I think you should double check about peppermint tea - it's highly recommended for nausea/morning sickness issues during pregnancy....

RE: green tea... I thought green tea was regarded as an aid to increase fertility. But I think if it were abortive..... that would be made way more public in OB offices and hospitals everywhere.

Maybe make an appointment with your doctor and go over the "eat this, not that" sheet...
