I am so ready to give up! This whole thing is so frustrating. My body just doesn't want to cooperate with me...every now and then I step back and look at my situation and just want to cry.
sorry needed to vent... So I took progesterone for 10 days and stopped to bring on a withdrawal bleed. It has been a week after i stopped and still no period. Is this normal? The last time I took Progesterone AF came the day after I stopped. The time before that AF came before i finished the 10 days of taking it. what the heck...at this point I am just ready to go back on birth control...i just cant handle all of this ambiguity....and my face is breaking out like i am 15 or something! urghhhhh. |

I don't know if it's normal or not, but I do know that if I were in your situation I'd call my ob/gyn and ask him/her all about it. Actually, if I were as worried as you sound about this I'd make an office appointment today or tomorrow and grill him like he's taking the boards all over again. I'd ask what this could mean, how this is relevant to my cycle, how it affects my fertility (if at all), if there are any tests he would order for his wife if this was their situation and she was going crazy over still not getting her period after taking progesterone and probably a few other questions as well.
I was just going to post this when I thought of something else: Are you reasonably sure that you're not pregnant? When's the last time you took a test? Unless you tested very recently (maybe in the past couple of days) I think the first thing I'd do even before calling the office would be a repeat test and see where that gets me... Good luck with that!!! ETA: BTW, if you are pregnant, progesterone will not have hurt the fetus. Women (myself and others on this board, for example) are prescribed progesterone shots for the entire first trimester because it's supposed to actually improve the quality of the uterine lining! |

sorry to hear that you are having so many issues. Are you possibly pregnant? Are you ttc?

thanks emmalawyer,
I took a PT this morning, no dice. spoke to my OBGYN, she says wait til the end of the week and if still no AF, then she will try the progesterone again for a longer amount of time. it's hard to stay patient with this, but I guess you can't do this without patience. thanks for your advice. |

Sometimes your body just plays tricks on you. My friend didn't get her period one year for 3 months and then she took progesterone and got her period 2 months later. Have you been dieting a lot lately/extremely active in sports?

I had to take two 10 day cycles of progesterone to get a period. It's unusual, but it does happen. Best of luck.

has ur md done other blood work testing?? instead of continuously taking more and more progesterone, they should be checkin ur lab work to make sure there are not any other reasons for no AF. after i went off the pill, no period for 3 months and before i was prescribed prometrium, they did a bunch of labwork. turns out i had elevated prolactin levels which kept me from getting my period. she said even if i had taken the prometrium, i would not have gotten a period. eventually, i was dx with a pituitary adenoma (benign pituitary tumor) which affected my prolactin levels. went on med to lower prolactin, and they came back down to normal
in regards to birth defects, i do remember my md telling me to be absolutely sure i was not pregnant before taking the progesterone. i did take progesterone suppositories for a previous pregnancy, i think the meds are different forms?? good luck! |
