Default some advice

Hi Ladies

I dont understand some of the abbreviations on here to post in that way but hope somebody could help? been TTC for approx 4 months.

I had my last period on 4th August but it was a bit strange, finished very quickly after 3 days

I started feeling really ill last tuesday, really naseaous (sp) and so tired, I just felt like crying. I just felt "off". Over the weekend I was vomiting and feeling very weak, with a terrible headache, I went to see my doctor on Monday and she put it down to a viral infection, I was also covered in spots and my hair was really greasy after just a day of washing it

Anyway, today I felt no better (have stopped being sick but can only manage to eat toast I feel sick just looking at food) and spoke to a nurse who advised me I could be pregnant and told me to take a pregnancy test straight away, but it was negative, I felt really low after this as I had been hoping I might be pregnant.

Now, I wonder if I took the pregnancy test too early? my next period is not due till first week in september. I still feel really tired and have no energy and I havent felt well now for coming up to two weeks. Prior to this I just felt really hormonal and sensitive.

My husband was so excited when I told him what the nurse said and seemed really upset when I told him I had a negative test. Up to this point I have been trying to be patient and tell him to relax about it all but part of me still wonders if I could be pregnant ??

I kind of doubt you would have such strong symptoms if you just got pregnant this cycle...Can you go to a Dr. and ask for a blood test?? You never know! You could just wait another week and test again, but the Drs test would be more accurate!

i think I might be building my hopes up :( waiting will do no harm I suppose but I suppose I just hoped there was a chance.
I am 36 and panicking a little, have bought a few baby books and they have practically written me off in terms of having a baby!

It isn't as easy as getting pregnant when you are 20, but a healthy, in shape woman at 36 still has very good chances! Good luck.

It sounds like you may just be sick. If you had your period on August 4, 2008 it would be very early to be experiencing such dramatic symptoms, especially for nearly two weeks, although I guess it could be possible, maybe. I dunno...maybe you should get a blood test to find out for sure if you are pregnant.

Good luck and do not write yourself off for getting pregnant at 36. It can and will happen.

I don't think you're pregnant but I could be wrong.

Sorry the best time to test is the day your period is due, or you risk getting a false negative because the HCG hormone is likely to be low before your period is due even when testing with kits that are said to be able to do premature testing. Sometimes periods are short because of stress, illness, and other lifestyle factors. Also trying too hard to get pregnant can trick your body in thinking it is pregnant and you start having pregnancy symptoms, I did when I was TTC. The mind is a powerful tool, don't underestimate what it can do.

36 is still ok an age. I'm 36 and preggy with my first. I TTC for 6 mths before but only really took it seriously for the last 2 mths. I have friends who got pregnant well up to 45 yo and bore healthy intelligent children I don't think age should have a huge impact in your chances of getting pregnant although it does play a part. If your periods have been regular and you don't have complications like severe cramping, fibroids, etc, you should do just fine.

Some of the sure-fire pregnancy symptoms many women have prior to the day their period is due include:
* prolonged high basal temperature of 98.8~99.7'F which starts around 10-12 days after you ovulated, continues for 18 or more consecutive days
* tenderness in breasts - they feel heavy, painful, and super sensitive, you get the feeling of lugging around 2 canon balls
* implantation spotting - lasts about a day where you see few small drops of dark brown or dark pink blood (never bright red like period) on your panty liner, occurs around the start of your high basal temperature.

Some women experience mild cramps which go on and off everyday. I didn't have this. I think women who are prone to cramping around ovulation will most likely experience this.

Other pregnancy symptoms that do not start till around 2 weeks after your period was due are:
* headaches, dizziness
* tiredness, lethargy, sleepiness
* nausea, vomiting (morning sickness)
* backaches (for reflex uterus), cramping in lower abdomen
* weight gain
* food cravings and aversions
* bloating
* constipation & diarrhea

Something to note is with the high basal temperature before your period is due, you feel as if you have a fever but you do not feel sick at all. Instead you feel energetic, healthy and alert. The fact that you did feel sick before your period was due means it's probably a mild cold or flu you got. Maybe a stomach flu?

Above all, when you're pregnant you don't just hope you're pregnant, you get this uncanny feeling that you are indeed pregnant.

Baby dust to you.
