Default HSG Results = Nightmare....

This post is really more of a Vent than anything else, but I truly welcome your thoughts, advice or similar stories you can offer to help me thru this ...

I had my HSG on Fri and found out that the dr. wasn't able to get the contrast past my cervix into my uterus proper, and that it appeared that a very large fibroid was blocking my uterus. He had me roll onto either side a couple of times until I couldn't take the pain of the test any longer and then proceeded to explain the results to me.
He said he hadn't seen anything like this before but that no matter how hard he tried to get the contrast into me, he couldn't get it it to flow into my uterus. However, by having me turn onto either side, he was able to get the dye into my left tube, but not the right. He said that suggested to him that perhaps there was one or more fibroids blocking the right tube. Bottom line, I am miserable and suspect now that I will have to have surgery to remove the fibroids. I will see my gyno tomorrow to discuss the results and my options but I'm not happy about having to go under the knife and I'm worried that it will affect my chances of TTC.

Has anyone out there had a similar situation happen? were you able to conceive after surgery? I should say I'm 37, married and longing for a child.

TIA!!

Do you think its worth finding another doctor to check you out? It just seems odd that a doctor would say "he hadn't seen anything like that before". How much experience does he have? It can never hurt to get another opinion especially when you might have surgery.

My ex-friend had what seems like a similar issue to me but I could be totally off-base. She had the test and it was very painful because she had cysts on her tubes. She had surgery (which was an out-patient procedure and not bad) to remove the cysts. They ended up cutting one of her tubes. The doctor told her that she still should be able to have kids, but has not started TTC (as far as I know since we are no longer friends).

I wouldn't get yourself too stressed since there are so many options for to help with fertility

I have not had this experience or know anyone that has but I wanted to say I am sorry that it was so painful. You can vent here all you want!! We are here for you!! Meet with your Dr., see what he has to say and if you are not happy get a second opinion. The surgery would probably be outpatient, but I am not 100% sure on that. Good luck and keep us updated!

I had fibroid removal surgery in 2001 and I'm pregnant now so it's definitely very possible to conceive after surgery. My fibroids have since grown back (doesn't happen to everyone) and thankfully I was able to become pregnant even with the fibroids. If the fibroid is inside your uterus, you may be able to have laproscopic surgery to remove it and the recovery time is about a week or two! You can have laproscopic surgery if they're outside of your uterus as well if they're small enough. Mine were large so I had to be cut open and the recovery wasn't great but I felt okay after a month and you're allowed to start TTC after 3 months so even if you have that kind of surgery, you still won't have to wait too long before trying.

I'm sorry you're going through this, I know how bad it sucks.

Ladies,

Thanks so much for your feedback. The Dr. who did the HSG was the radiologist so I'm assuming he hasn't seen something like this in his experience with the x-rays. I have an appt. with my gyno today and I'm bringing my x-rays with me for her to look at and offer her opinion on. I've been seeing her for like 6 or 7 years and trust her completely. My guess is that she is going to suggest another ultrasound and then possibly a myomectomy (at least that's what I think from the research I did on the internet).

Please keep me in your prayers and I'll definitely report back on what happens.

Have a great day!

H.B.M.
