HPT results.....am I pregnant?

Me and my hubby have been TTC since November of last year. I've always been on a 30 day cycle until the month of February. I don't know what happened but ever since then, I've been on a 38 day cycle. My last period was April 30th and I haven't started my period yet. I didn't want to get my hopes up, and thought that maybe it was stress that's delaying my pregnancy. We just got a new house and I've been painting and cleaning for the past 2 weeks. I've been so busy that my hubby and I only BD last month once, somewhere around May 14th. I didn't think I'd be pregnant from that since we were trying every other day for that last 5 months. Since I was late this month, my husband told me that maybe I was pregnant and he didn't want me working on the house if I was. so I decided to take a HPT last night. I bought the First Response and tested around 7pm last night. So 1 line was dark pink, and I had another line that was really light pink. I've taken this test before and usually, when it's negative, I only see 1 line. Never have I seen 2. So my husband told me to try this morning using the first urine. And the result were exactly the same. Is there a possibility that I'm pregnant? I don't want to get me hopes up. We've been wanting one so bad. Also, if the hormone that is suppose to be present when I'm pregger is there, shouldn't the line be really dark because we BD on the 14th? I talked to some other people and they told me that the same thing happened to them and they miscarried. Resulting in the horomone not being predominent. I hope this is not the case. I have an appointment with an OBGYN on friday to see if everything is ok. I just hope that I didn't miscarry due to working on the house. Please let me know what your thoughts are. I'm driving myself insane right now. Thank you!

Yes. If there were 2 lines, then you are pregnant. The preg. hormone is either present in your body (+HPT) or not (-HPT). This is an oversimplification, of course, because even without being a physician I know that there are certain fertility meds (like Ovidrel, I think) that will affect the result etc. Still, if I had to put $$$ on whether you are pregnant or not, I'd say that if you saw 2 lines (regardless of how faint the second one was), you're pregnant! CONGRATULATIONS, mama!

And, in response to the concerns you mentioned toward the end of your post, I'd add that with any new pregnancy, there is a chance of miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy, or God knows what else... but chances are, you're pregnant and your pregnancy will be just fine. I don't think that how dark the second line is correlates that strongly with "how pregnant" you are. I can only speak from personal experience here (just like I did above, by the way, because I'm no OBGYN) but when I tested last summer I also got a pretty faint positive. It turned out I was pregnant (with triplets, at the time, but that's a different story). It's good you have the appointment on Friday; it's not a horribly long time to wait (yeah, right, I know) but try not to stress too much and congrats again!

Thanks emma. Your babies are so cute! They are gorgeous! Well I've been taking prenatal pills for the past couple of months. I think it's called Natalle. It's a prescription from the dr. That wouldn't effect the HPT, would it? I don't want to get my hopes up. I just don't understand why the second line is so light. I hope I'm pregnant!

^^^Thank you. I love them to bits... they got their 4-month shots today and they are displeased (but still cute lol).

No, prenatal vitamins don't affect HPT accuracy (they don't contain hormones).

Congrats in advance!

When I tested using an HPT, I saw a faint 2nd line on the first day of my missing period. I waited 2 more days, took the test again, and the line was darker, which meant the faint line on my 1st test was enough to show that I was pregnant!

Good luck at your appt - you're fortunate to be able to see your ob/gyn so soon! I immediately made an appt and it was 5 weeks out.
