Is there a difference in the brands? There's so many brands out there. Is one better than the other? I'm currently taking Natelle right now but I hear people taking PreCare Premier, Prenate, and DuetDHA. Is there a more preferred one? Or all they all the same?

my pharmacist says that she took a generic brand and that it was all the same. She did say however that the DHA(fish oil) in Duet was what helps with the baby's brain development. I used to take Duet DHA, except all of a sudden the pharmacies stopped carrying it now I take Prenate elite. this one has a stool softener which i think is unecessary until i actually become preggers, plus it cost 10 bucks more than the DUET DHA. The Duet pills were coated and went down easier and the Elite pills are chalky. I would suggest Duet. I used to take fish oil b4 I was TTC. Most of us dont get enough of it anyway.

are you having problems withthe Natelle?

bebek - You may want to try Prenate DHA instead of just Prenate Elite. As the name says, it contains DHA and is coated with a vanilla flavor. For my insurance, it's the same price for both of those. I've been taking Prenate DHA since I was 10 weeks pregnant when I ran out of the generic brand one that I was taking.

cyberdiva - All prenatal vitamins are essentially the same, so just pick a brand that has coated pills. Because the chalky is much harder to swallow. DHA is good for fetal brain development and it's good for your health in general. So you can take DHA supplement if you want during TTC.

No, I'm just curious about the different brands out there. Should I be taking a fish oil supplement with my prenatels too?

They recommend non-fish source of DHA during pregnancy because of possible mercury contents in fish source of DHA. Flaxseed & flaxseed oil are non-fish source of DHA. There is also Expecta LIPIL DHA supplement by Enfamil.

Good Luck.

The prenatal vitamins (the brands listed above) didn't agree with me at all once I got pregnant... My nausea would intensify exponentially as soon as I took the vitamin.... I ended up just taking a multivitamin AND making sure I ate foods that were high in the nutrients my twins needed. I did supplement the multi with folic acid for the first trimester. My nausea all but stopped, I was no longer constipated and, most importantly, the twins turned out perfectly well. So, to generalize based on my experience, I'm not all that convinced that the specific brand of prenatal vitamin matters all that much --as long as one makes a concerted effort to eat as healthily as possible before and during pregnancy.
