After I got off the pill, my cycles have been 37-42 days for the past four months. This month AF was an unexpected visitor at day 24. WTH. Anyone else has funny cycles?

Yes you will have odd cycles with varying days. Depending on how many years you have been on the pill, the time to revert back to normal cycles will vary with the individual, please visit your gynae for an estimation. Most women are told it takes 4-6 months to get back to normal and a lady I know who had been on the pill continuously for 13 years was told to take 2 years off before TTC. She conceived in 1 year and gave birth to a healthy son thankfully!

I have always had 27-28 day cycles when I was on the pill and off. I do not think there is any time frame for how long you have to be off of the pill before you TTC. Maybe now that it came day 24 that you are getting closer to being at a 28 day cycle.

From our results thus far I would say no. can't tell when my O days are. We've been charting my cycles and counting the days but mother nature threw a wrench by changing my cycle. I've now bought a digital thermometer. We're going to try the BBT route and charting.

I'm hoping that my cycle will return to pre-pill days which was closer to 28 days.

I got my ovulation monitor off of eBay. You could always try that. I was off when I thought I was ovulating i really wasn't.

wasabipea you can tell when you ovulate by buying both these items:
- Taking Charge of Your Fertility book by Toni Weschler make sure you get the latest edition pictured at the website. You can get a copy from eBay for like $15 incl. shipping.
- Clear Blue Fertility Monitor & 1 pack of test strips, total approx $240, from your drugstore at the pharmacist. Do not buy the monitor from eBay because it's personalized and some might have been used. Resetting is not always successful I heard.

With these 2 items in hand you need not worry about cycle length. Book teaches you how to determine the day you are most fertile, while monitor checks for the ovulation hormone in your urine. Both are pretty accurate.

Thanks ladies. I'm heading to the drug store today and purchasing the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor. I'm hoping some of that baby dust is going to fall on me soon.

I had a couple of those "abnormal" cycles before getting my cycles shortened to 28 days (normally they were 34-42 with the odd 25 in the middle)

My dr. did tell me that it may take your body several cycles to regulate. I had 45 day cycles prior to the pill, 28 day cycles while on the pill and went back to 45 day cycles after I stopped taking the pill. My doctor told me it can take 2-3 months for the hormones to fully leave your body so he didn't want me to TTC because the residual hormones can be damaging if you do get pregnant. I got pregnant 7 months after I stopped taking the pill, had a miscarriage and now I am pregnant again....another 7 months later. I have a friend that got pregnant her first full cycle off the pill.

I had 30-32 day cycles before the pill, very regular 28 day cycles during the pill till 1 year off the pill, and 31/32 day cycles after the 1 year off the pill. So my body took about 1 year to adjust to its normal cycle. I think everyone's reaction is different due to the type of pill taken, years on the pill, age, and other factors.

My MD did tell me that it would take 6 months to return to normal. I guess I should have asked specifics with what she meant by normal. To me, it meant my period will return. Don't know what I was thinking. I thought the early AF was a fluke. Glad to read my cycle may return to pre-pill days. I thought my 35+ day cycles were a bit long. Its comforting to know other women here have similar experiences. Thank you.
