does clomid or IUI cause bloating?
i've been reading that clomid or IUI can mimic pregnancy symptoms and i wanted to know if anyone else experienced the same thing. (this info i found online.) if so, how terrrible that or minds are in on this little game as well. here we are thinking and getting excited that we may actually be pregnant but in the end its just a side effect. has anyone experienced pregnancy like symptoms while on clomid or done IUI but turned out to be a false alarm? |

hmm. this really doesn't answer your question meluvs2shop but this was what i felt while i was on Clomid.
I was on Clomid one cycle 100mg. I can't say it mimic's pregnancy symptoms more like PMS symptoms enhanced. While i was on the cycle i had cramps like crazy and each ovary was taking turns telling me they were ovulating and PMS times 20.... Clomid places your hormones on overdrive hence the enhanced symptoms. oh and my boobs were tender. Maybe because we're so intuned to each twinge, each body change when its getting close to AF we think we are??? Clomid just enhances all those symptoms. |

First of all good luck ladies!!!
I've had very positive experiences with 50mg clomid - no side effects and success on the third try and the first try with my second and third boys. We had to take the clomid plus IUI (using thawed frozen samples) route as my husband had to start long term medication that can cause birth defects. For those with no distinct fertility problems I think the constant monitoring required with clomid is just so helpful and takes away any guesswork with timing issues. As for false pregnancy symptoms, I think there may be some enhanced symptoms if you are also given progesterone supplements but otherwise my symptoms/lack of symptoms before I tested positive have all varied so much. You can't really ever be sure until you take that test! |

i actually didn't feel any side effects on clomid which was good b/c i heard some women complain about awful headaches. my progesterone levels were good so i didn't need any supplements.
i just had read online that IUI can mimic pregnancy symptoms so i just wanted to see if anyone here experienced the same thing. ty ladies for your feedback. |

Should you always be monitored when you are on clomid? My OB/Gyn handed me a script for it like it was candy. I haven't taken it yet and have been wondering if I should be monitored by a RE on it. I was on the pill for 10 years, have been off for 6 months, and haven't ovulated since I have been off. I had a internal ultra-sound and blood work and everything is normal so they gave me clomid. . .

^what did your OB/Gyn say when she handed it to you?
i know that clomid has to be taken at a certain time of the month and around the same time each day until your script runs out. i was monitored while i was on clomid. |

She gave me three months of clomid (50mg), said to take it starting on day 5 and that if it didn't work to see a RE. She also said to use the clearblue easy fertility monitor that I have to see if I am ovulating.

Probably because it's only been six months and your tests have been fine your Ob/Gyn isn't too concerned so will see if the clomid works on it's own.
I had one cycle where my doc did the same, although she did get me in for an ultrasound on Day 12 of my cycle (with taking 50mg Clomid starting on Cycle Day 2) to check how the egg was developing. Other cycles I had the ultrasound on Day 12, if the egg was mature I'd get an injection of progesterone to initiate ovulation within 48 hours. HTH :) |

Okay, thanks for the info! I have been going back and forth about whether to take it. I am anxious to finally get a positive pregnancy test but I am also completely freaked out by the possibility of multiples. I would prefer not to have twins, but I guess I would survive. More then two would definitely send me into a panic! Maybe I will give the clomid a try on this cycle. I also have to take provera to start my period since I haven't been having real periods due to annovulatory cycles. . .

I guess that's why some initial monitoring might be helpful just to see how you respond to the dosage. I only ever had single follicles mature with 50mg so there wasn't much of a risk of multiples :)

Should my regular OB/GYN be monitoring me or do I have to go to a RE? If I have to go to a RE do my husband and I have to go through all of the fertility tests before they will let me try clomid? Thanks for answering all of my questions. This is all new to me. Silly me thought I would be able to get preggers the old fashioned way.
I would feel a million times better knowing that only one follicle was maturing.

iluvhandbangs, My OBGYN monitored my Clomid. since he's the one who prescribed the Clomid. I was thinking of going to a RE but my OBGYN also specialized in infertility.
I didn't go through a battery of tests but each sitatution is different. Your OB or RE will walk you through what you'll need to do. from my experience, usual tests are Sperm Analysis for the DH and probably a routine exam for you. If you're having annovulatory cycles he'll probably first prescribe provera to bring on AF. because you'll need to take clomid on day 5 during AF. Again, this is up to your doctor. lots of luck! |

My ob/gyn was also the one doing all the monitoring. It's really not that bad and hopefully it'll work first time!!!
