Wth is going on out there???

FORT HOOD, Texas – The U.S. Army says 12 people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting rampage on the Fort Hood Army base in Texas. The Army says one shooter has been killed and two others apprehended on Thursday in the shooting and all are U.S. soldiers.

this is slightly shocking, but very, very sad.

what is WRONG with our country (and yes, i say that because you do not hear of such violence/madness on a regular basis in any other industrialized country)?!

Too much stress and maybe not enough medical attention. Who knows, but it is so incredibly sad.

Very sad indeed. I have a feeling these men might have been suffering with PTSD.

We don't even know yet if they were ever deployed. I just talked to DH about it and he said that when he was deployed, the ones who freaked out the worst were those who had just received their deployment orders.

It has been confirmed that the shooters were U.S. soldiers. What a tragedy.

The primary shooter has been named, was a Major and about to be deployed to Iraq (apparently)

Could be a re-deployment, too. I guess more news will be coming out. Some of those guys are on their 3rd or 4th mission.

Ughh my neighbor's husband is still being kept on base. My DBF is stationed there as well and I'm actually glad he's in Iraq atm and not at Fort Hood!

MSNBC is saying Major Malik Nadal Hasan is a mental health professional. Found this on the site:
A defense official told The Associated Press that Hasan was a mental health professional — either a psychologist or a psychiatrist — but that it was not known whether he was treating people at the base.
