Default Phoenix, AZ Police Seek Cat Killer (Graphic)
[My apologizes on the title (mods please edit). I meant that there is a cat killer loose in Mesa, AZ. I hope they find this person. People in the East Valley, I urge you please to keep your cats inside!

B]MCSO: Another serial cat killer on the loose in East Valley[/B]

MESA, AZ -- Maricopa County Sheriff's officials are warning East Valley cat owners to be extra watchful.

MCSO said Monday at least 14 cats have been injured or killed by a person or persons cutting the animals, inflicting a long deep stab wound along the back of each cat.

Two of the cats have died as a result of their injuries, while others required costly veterinarian care to recover.

Julie Nicolazzi found her cat, Momma, with a deep cut along her back.

"My reaction was someone intentionally did this to her [judging] by the clean cut down her back," said Nicolazzi.

Nicolazzi had her cat for seven years.

After being attacked, Nicolazzi had to give the cat up because the medical bills were too costly.

"I want to urge everyone to keep their cats indoors," said Nicolazzi.

MCSO officials said the cats have all been owned by residents in the Southeast Valley cities of Mesa, Chandler, Tempe and East Phoenix.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio said, "We need help to find these perpetrators. At this point in our investigation, we have no leads and no suspects. But someone out there knows who is doing this and we need that person to contact us with the information."

Arpaio has ordered the volunteer posse into the investigation to assist deputies. He said he does not believe there are any ties to satanic activity despite the incidents' proximity to Halloween.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff's animal abuse hotline at 602-876-1681.
