A New York Muslim man is charged with beheading his wife.

CNN reports that the man was described as an "influential member of the local Muslim community."

Police identified the victim as Aasiya Z. Hassan, 37.

Detectives have charged her husband, Muzzammil Hassan, 44, with second-degree murder.

"He came to the police station at 6:20 p.m. [Thursday] and told us that she was dead," Orchard Park Police Chief Andrew Benz said late this morning.

Muzzammil Hassan told police he left the body and the head of his wife at his media company, Bridges TV, on Thorn Avenue in the village.

Officers went to that location and discovered her decapitated body.

Muzzammil Hassan is the founder and chief executive officer of Bridges TV, which he launched in 2004, amid hopes that it would help portray Muslims in a more positive light.

Authorities say Aasiya Hassan recently had filed for divorce from her husband.

Yup. In some of these countries they can kill their wives and daughters if the man's/family's honor is tarnished...not in the U.S. though. The defense will probably claim the man was exercising his freedom of religion or something like that. I remember a similar case in which they fought back and forth because of the man's conditioning under his country's laws and moral code, but in the end, since he was in the U.S., he had to abide by U.S. laws.

This is definitely a deep cultural thing..
But then the husband could be suffering from some sort of mental illness that never was treated or identified..he just happen to be Muslim..thus the alleged Honor Killing? I'm just saying...
I watch in the news all the time women being murdered by their spouses...regardless of race, country or religion..

Something tells me it wasn't really just an honor killing.

The wife had taken an order of protection against him due to domestic abuse already. That man is SCREWED up and needs to be charged with 1st degree murder.

This quote from the article says it all. The "honor killing" defense is an attempt to make murder excusable, if not acceptable.

Adding some more to my post, sounds to me like he is an abusive husband murdering his estranged wife..i hope he gets capital punishment..
