I really don't get the whole mob mentality of hanging out and just doing nothing. Do they really lack that much common sense that there is not some kind of warning bell going off in their head?? Even if they wanted to "protect their rep" someone could have texted someone to call the police. Beyond that wtf are 20somethings doing hanging out with high school kids?!

same here!!

My goodness! Just awful and so very sad. Just why I'm teaching mine never to go anywhere alone especially at night!

There were 20somethings there and they also raped the girl? WTH?!! What 20+ year old hangs out with a bunch of highschoolers at their homecoming dance? Ugh....This whole thing is just beyond sick and disgusting. I hope those A-Holes enjoy being someone's b***h in prison, which is where they belong!

I can't help but think the girl got lured behind the fence by someone she knew and when she tried to leave, they may have told her she had to consume the alcohol first b4 they let her go. I can't imagine she drank willingly... I mean, here's a girl who's leaving the dance at 9:30 to meet her father, by these accounts she was not that type of girl...

Besides the disgusting people who were involved in this crime, the school knew that many crimes occur on the campus and its vicinity...yet none of their security cameras are working?! WTF? So they have them as dummies? What's the point of installing them if they're not going to work to help convict the criminals there? If those cameras worked, they would've been able to get catch these people and have so much against them.

dummy cameras are often used to prevent crime just by being 'present' for possible criminals... pretty much useless

Dummy cameras are useless especially in an area where crime is known to occur. They knew crime goes on in that neighborhood so they shouldn't be dummies.

This reminds me of Robert Frost's poem about how the world can end in fire or ice. Those who coldly watch with folded arms as someone is suffering or dying is just as guilty as those who inflict and act in violence. Perhaps it is the psychological assumption that someone else will call the police or fear that if they get involved, they will be in trouble too. What a complex and sad world we live in. :(
