hi all, i just came across this thread...I actually went shopping at the Cabazon outlets just yesterday! I just moved to Los Angeles (from Boston) a couple weeks ago, and I "had" to go shopping to get some new clothes (everyone is so fashion-conscious here in LA!)

Anyway, Cabazon is about 100 miles east of LA (it was a 2-hour drive from Playa Vista, which is northwest part of LA, near Marina del Rey). Some tips for those who have never been there:

1) Don't take I-10 all the way there from LA (if you live west of downtown). Google says to do that, and it does look like the simplest route because the outlets are just off I-10. But in the car our GPS said to follow a different route (taking Calif 60 and several other freeways). On the way there we just followed the GPS, and there was no problem. On the way back we were curious and decided to take I-10 all the way back, wondering why the GPS told us to go a different route. Well it was all fine till we got close to downtown LA, which was a *major* traffic jam (on a Saturday!). Anyway, I'm sure this may be obvious to a lot of you LA ppl but it wasn't obvious to us who are quite new to the area and are not used to the idea of there being traffic 7 days a week.

2) and as some already suggested, bring comfortable walking shoes!! And sunglasses. for shoes I'd wear flip flops or sandals (no socks), since it literally is 100+ degrees there. I made the mistake of wearing sneakers w/ socks and it was waay too hot, plus was annoying to take off sneakers, socks everytime i wanted to try some clothes on.

3) and be sure to get the coupon book (at the info desk) *and* the online printable coupons as well (just go to the outlet site and become a VIP member..then you can print the voucher for the coupon book and other coupons for individual stores). I was able to get 20% off 1 item coupon for Ann Taylor (printable coupon) and a 15% off $100 coupon (from coupon book) and I was able to use them both (on different items) and save $75.

Anyway, since I just spent $600 (!) shopping yesterday (bought a *nice* Coach tote, D&G sunglasses, and $250 worth of clothes at Ann Taylor) I'm not sure if I'll end up going there again on Labor Day. But you never know, I still might go, as I always am up for shopping...

We would love for you to join us. So far there not many people are showing much interest in going. If you would like to join us we can carpool. I don't live that far from you and I don't mind driving.

On Holiday Weekends they usually have extra sales. Which is a lways a good thing.

hmmm, did you say *extra sales*? i'm a bit more inclined to go now... :) hee hee.

well i'll post here again if/when i decide to go...(i should know my schedule better in a week or two). if i do decide to go i'll definitely be interested in carpooling and would reimburse for mileage etc.

ok, so after thinking it over i'm now at least 90% sure i will be going to the Cabazon outlets on labor day. :) I wasn't sure i was going to go because i had already went earlier, but now i think i need something to take mind off all this stress i've been having lately (what a better way to relieve stress than to go shopping ). thing is i am getting married in 2 months and the stress of the wedding planning is killing me. actually it really isnt about the wedding planning itself, most of the stress is from requests (read: demands) from relatives who act like it will be the end of the world if i don't do what they say (i won't bore with the details..too long to list). *sigh* Both my fiance are getting to the point that we are regretting not just going to Vegas and eloping (a very smart idea, I am realizing now).

anyways, ...... am looking forward to a good dose of shopping. :)

sweetnet is right!! do not take the 10fwy all the way, i live in OC and i always have my bf take the 60 instead od the 57 to the 10....even when i lived in LONG BEACH i still took the 60 to the 10..less traffic and lesser distance.

I really HATE writing this. Since it seems like everyone is busy Labor Day weekend, I will need to postpone the Cabazon shopping trip. I was really looking forward to meeting everyone. I know MrsJimmyh and I are talking about organizing another get together for a different weekend in Oct. So I hope more people can make it to that get together.

If more people show interest in going I would still be willing go.
