I was lucky enough to have my creative, clever, funny and inspirational father as my Grade 5 teacher. It was a tiny country school of fewer than 50 pupils in the West Australian bush and my mum was a teacher in the classroom right next door!
Almost 30 years later Dad is still teaching and his specialty is troubled children. They respond to him in a way that is truly amazing and he has changed many of their paths for the better.

The first teacher that comes to mind is Mrs. Kinghorn, my fifth grade teacher. She was young, from the low country of South Carolina, just married and very pretty. She would have a drawing for every play performed at Town Theater and I won a few and this fueled my love of the theater. One day in class she came into the room sad and told us President Kennedy had been killed. This too I will always remember.

It would definitely have to be my second kindergarten teacher Mrs. Rose Johnson. I say "seond" because my first one was not so nice to me. I was a shy little girl who had never been to school before and really hated being away from my mom for a whole day. My former teacher didn't like kids that cried, so she would encourage the other children to tease me.....it was awful and I was really beginning to hate school. Thank goodness my mom caught on fast!! She whisked me out of that school and into the loving and most "kid friendly" classroom I have ever seen!!! Mrs. Johnson was the polar opposite...she gave hugs, sang songs with us, taught me how to read...etc. The best part was that this woman LOVED to teach!! It was written all over her face....I am now a teacher and it's partly due to Mrs. Johnson making my first school expereince the BEST!!

i had a professor named david wyman who taught one of the holocaust courses that i took...although i had been studying the holocaust for years, i learned from him that i wanted to study more and know more...i enrolled in an institute and became certified to teach a program called "holocaust and human behavior"...teaching jr high and high school students how one person can make a difference to help eradicate prejudice and baseless hatred has become my passion...wouldn't it be nice in our lifetime to see that?

Mrs. Kelly, my 5th grade teacher who stayed after school was done to tutor me. I was really bad at math and without my parents asking her what can be done, she came to my parents and told them she would take time to help me. With her, everything started to click and ever since then, my grades have never fell lower than a B.

i don't have a special teacher but i'd like to dedicate my thanks to all the teachers and personnel of matthew a henson #29 in baltimore, md. that was my elementary school and it's where i got my rearing from. they were like mother and father. stern and loving. it's been a many day since i went there but it was the best school that i've attended.i thought that growing up and going to high school and then college would be the best as far as schools go but they took time no matter what to make sure that you were a model student and they never gave up. even if you had a problem you could go into the office and still get love. i'd like to salute those hard working people. now that i sit and think about them i wish i coould see their faces. i run into one teacher ms cosby from time to time and she still looks the same as if age hadn't hit her one bit. i had a crush on my fifth grade teacher(mr. smallwood).he was so tall and drove a small sports car. i used to wonder how he fit because of his height. i was always an articulate student but i would finish my work and just stare around the room trying to see who else was finished or if i was the first to finish. INNOCENCE. i remember singing the song "CHILDREN LIVE WHAT THEY LEARN".i could go on and on but #29 showed me that you give what you get and if you don't put much of your wits out in life you get nothing back!!

Mr. Randall Datus was my most influential teacher. My junior year of high school he made me realize that anything really was possible, as long as I worked for it and deserved it. Success is a privledge, not a right and he taught me that I had to believe in myself first.

He gave me the tools that my life required at that time to believe in myself. And from that moment on, I started to trust in me! I would have failed high school otherwise...and I cannot imagine what my life would be like now!

Mr. Peter Papworth - 6th grade Honors English and Social Studies. We had him for back-to-back classes. Because of him I can name and identify all 50 states in the USA, along with their capitols, and recall most of Europe, Asia, and South America's countries and capitols. I memorized "Annabel Lee" and can still recite it.

The man was intelligent, inspired, enthusiactic and taught us how to play chess, too!

Miss Parmley from my highschool art classes. She understood me and believed in me and she is the reason that I ended up going ahead with the arts and finding my passion and becoming a designer. Thank you.
