My grandmother was the most influential teacher for me. She got her master's in special education in the early 1900's, was a single mother, blind and taught special needs children until she retired in her late 60's. An incredibly warm, loving, giving and gifted teacher/mother/grandmother. Her name was Molissia Moore Taylor.

Mr. Marmorek was my English teacher in grades 12 and OAC. He encouraged me to write more and hone my skills as a writer. Without him, I never would have had the confidence to apply for journalism school and get in and be a great writer today. Not only was he my teacher but he is now a friend.

My fav professor is Dr. Darryl Yong of Harvey Mudd College - he convinced me not to transfer out when the times were so tough. I spent many hours crying in his office. I still think about him to this day.

My most influential teacher was in college. His name is Dr. Eichenberger and he was a huge help to me throughout my college career. He always made me feel like I could do anything, he was just a great teacher and friend.

My fave teacher was my high school teacher Ms. Siska in Indonesia
During high school, my parents were separated and I went through a very difficult period with my family. She was there to support me. Since I was very interested in Art/Painting and my school did not have good Art program, she encouraged me to apply for scholarships program in United States. I got in and managed to leave my country to start a new life. I will forever be grateful to her. |

Mrs. Reimers, who was my 7th grade teacher. She was not an easy teacher by any standards, but she was the first teacher who really made me feel like I could write, and encouraged me. And now, 20 years later, I do it for a living.

Mrs. Comer, 1st grade teacher, she made each child in her class feel beautiful, brilliant and loved. She still remembers me when I run into her (almost 30 years later.)

Mrs. Antoniette. She used to say she didn't know how a little head like mine could have so many criative thoughts inside. One of happiest days of my life was when I wrote my first letter and it was thank you letter to her, because she thought me how to write.

I'd have to say Mr. Maijala, my 8 grade History teacher. I didn't like History much...LOL but he made it so much more tolerable. LOL!! He made class fun, and interesting. I loved his style of teaching and youthfulness and understanding he had with the students. He was such a cool down to earth teacher!!!!!!! (..he later taught at my H.S. and I had him "again" for History!!) I remember the first day...I was like..."Heyyyyyyyy, Mr. Maijala!!!!!!!) YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been very lucky to have many good teachers in my life. But my friend Will Thompson is currently teaching 6th grade math and science has inspired me the most. He keeps me thinking and involved with the unfortunately poor state of our schools now. I'm not a parent, but I work with him to improve the state of our schools and our classrooms. He works tirelessly to reach kids who are flooded by hormones and TV. He also uses his spare time to organize book and suppply drives. It is thanks to teachers like him that kids today have supplied classrooms.

Mrs. Roby. I've been exposed to many great teachers but my 10th grade English teacher inspired me the most with her passion for teaching. Now, in my 2nd year in teaching (I'm a 2nd grade teacher), I try to do the same. I want my students to remember me as well.

My High School form Tutor Allison .S is the most amazing teacher I have ever met. She learned me lots of lessons in life and even on the bad days of high school she cheered me up.
She wrote in my book when I was leaving: A wise man once said - "I believe it is the nature of people to be heroes, given the chance" Go out to the world and be the hero you are! or as samantha jones might say - "Darling you are fabulous!" These words will stick with me for the rest of my life. |

My parents are both teachers and their passion for education led to my love of learning and knowledge--and ultimately my career.
Mr. Kahm was a great influence on my life. He taught 10th grade geometery, but our conversations after class and throughout highschool were primarily focused on philosophy and ethics. His teachings have influenced all major decisions I've made as an adult.

Talk about bizarre coincidences, but I actually had a dream about the teacher I am about to write about last night. I dreamed that we bumped into each other and the first thing I did was hug her. I was in tears. I wish I could see her again.
The teacher I am talking about is my 8th grade English teacher, Mrs. Grant. I was a loner. I didn't have many friends, and most of the kids made fun of me for being overweight. The only redeeming qualities I felt I had were that I was intelligent, artistic, and wrote well. She saw these qualities in me. In fact, she reached out to me. It started with a simple request for me to decorate her classroom window for the Halloween. I started coming in after school to work on the window. After that, I spent a great deal of time with her. I did her window decorations for just about every holiday, plus some other projects. She bragged to all the other teachers that her awesome window designs were my work, and soon I had other teachers wanting me to come in and do their windows. She also nurtured my love of writing. She even helped me submit one of my poems to a magazine that publishes junior high and high school-aged writers. I got rejected, but she was still my greatest cheerleader. She gave me a sense of self worth that I didn't have. At the end of the year, she even gave a me a gift. She gave me a really nice notebook and matching pen. She also told me to keep in touch. I am ashamed to admit that I didn't keep in touch with her, but what she did for me stayed with me for the rest of my life.

Mr. Story, my elementary school teacher. He encouraged me and pushed me to work to the best of my abilities.
