Dr. Liang, a teacher, a mentor, and she is my mother. Although very strict, she is one of the few university teachers I know that truely cares about the well being of her students. She invests her time and energy into each and every one of her students, on campus and off campus. As a teacher-mom, she taught me the values and meanings of life. I thank her for everything she has done for me and for the better good of this society.

My most memorable teacher would be Mrs. Pawson, my grade 6 teacher. It was her kindness, ability to make learning interesting and creativity that inspired me to become a teacher myself. I can only wish to be half the teacher she was. =)

My first grade teacher!!! After many years, I still think about her.

She was amazing and brave for realizing that I needed help. She was only teacher to realize that I had a disadvantage and did not try to push me through the system.

Mrs. Brown had the hardest job, but she did it with her heart, and she told my parents that I had to be held back a grade.
Luckily, I was in her class again and she passed me the 2nd time!

I still wonder about her and think of what she did for me.

My family immigrated to the US when I was 12 years old and in seventh grade. 12 is a tough age for anyone (we all remember how cruel kids can be at that age!), but especially for a shy girl in a new country who doesn't speak a work of English. Mr McNamara, my US History teacher, had the wisdom, heart and patience to guide me through Jr High School and to help me become who I am today. He spoke to me like an equal, never discounting my feelings or thoughts... I am forever grateful to Mr. McNamara and will carry him in my heart always...

Miss Drahos - hands' down. Third grade teacher at School No. 9 in Clifton, NJ. One story she told me has stayed with me my entire life and has greatly shaped how I raise my kids. She told us about the time she made a shadowbox for International Week. She used play scissors and cut tires in her backyard until her hands bled to make little boots for her Russian doll. She was so proud of her box until other girls came in with gold-stitched, elaborate dresses that made her's look simplistic and crude. She was embarrassed. But the teacher recognized that the shadowboxes were not made by the children but the parents and she called special recognition to Miss Drahos' project. To this day, I do not assist my children with projects unless absolutely necessary. Several years ago, I found myself in the same situation as Miss Drahos with my daughter's class. I reflected back to her words and was proud of my daughter's crudely designed project. But I was proud that it was all her own. Not all teachers recognize what Miss Drahos' teacher did that day, but I do. And, my kids will earn their grades themselves. She was a lovely, lovely woman. And she was a major influence on my life.

I would nominate my Year 10 + 11 english teacher, Miss Lockhart. She was the most thoughtful teacher who was so lovely and copiously hardworking. She always did far more than any other teacher would to prepare our lessons and make them fun but efficient. She was also a great source of moral support while I was going through a courtcase as a witness and was invaluable for me to talk to and to support me when I really needed it.

Aww. I wish she was still my teacher ha.

I would say my 7th grade teacher Mr. Morris. Well he just happened to be my grandfather. At the time I took it for granted and was upset because I felt he was picking on me. He'd always ask me what the answer was to a problem/question. I look back at it now from a different perspective as he was pushing me to excel and be the best. I also look back at it as a time I got to know more about my grandfather...which means everything to me now that he's gone.

Mrs. Aumiller was my high school advisor on the school paper. She encouraged me to test my wings and not settle for what was safe. I saw her at my 30th reunion and was able to tell her how important she was to me.

My most influential teacher was wasn't actually a teacher, but my Aunt Becky. She taught me how to make my very first origami swan when I was in third grade. To this day (I'm 28 soon to be 29), I make origami almost daily. I find myself wanting to become more expert that I am. And I don't make origami for myself. I usually make them and give them to people; it's a joy to see that something so plain like paper can turn into something beautiful (a rose, a cute giraffe, etc), and bring a smile to people young and old. :)

Mrs. Rader was my 4th grade teacher. She was always kind, but not soft. She expected excellence, and had a very creative teaching style.

Okay, I really cannot choose one. I truly feel that two of my hs teachers made a huge impact on me: Mrs. (Christina) Richardson-English, and Mrs. (Joanne) Klouda-Physics. I was, for a while, a very rebellious child-unchallenged and out of control. I honestly believe these two individuals helped me to focus on things I liked to do, which I realized was to learn! I'm still in college, not sure what I'm going to do in the "real world," but I know that without these two women in HS, I would not be where I am today. Thank you!

Ms Chia Bee Teck from my secondary school. She told me that I have to be an independent woman, I have to be strong and I can't show everyone my emotion. She played a big part in shaping my character.

After she moved to another school she invited me out to have dinner with her, and paid for the dinner. She left the country soon after. I never saw her again, but I still kept her letter of encouragement.

Mrs. Breslin -- it was a tough time for me, I was 12 and about to move to an entirely different country. My brother was in the Middle East, and we'd had no word from him for three months. I was angry at just about everyone and she understood that.

She took me under her wing and believed in me enough that I could believe in myself. She's the reason I actually started trying, received scholarships and and didn't give up and drop out as soon as I could.

Sorry this was so long!

Mr. Waidlich - an English teacher that I had in high school. He encouraged my reading habit - suggesting books I might like, and discussing them with me.

professor Rebecca Bailey Harris at Bristol University! She was imacculately dressed : red coat, gold pumps etc and she was the most approachable lecturer even though she was the Dean of the Faculty of Law. Amazing woman and so inspiring!
