Default Tokidoki & LeSportsac Bags on Oprah
Did anyone see this past Monday's Oprah Winfrey show (11/2)? Usually I don't watch Oprah, but she did a handbag, shoes, and accessory makeover on the audience members.

One of the audience members was a 50 year old woman who was carrying a Tokidoki for LeSportsac Vacanze Ciao Ciao. Oprah's fashion stylist singled her out and said that a major fashion don't was an older woman carrying a printed, cartoony "kiddie" bag: http://www.oprah.com/article/style/f...ntervention/11

It kind of annoyed me that the stylist (I forget his name but he's the fashion director for Oprah's "O" magazine) basically trashed Simone's work on national television as being "kiddish", although I'm sure that he has no idea what Tokidoki is, and didn't mention it by name. But to anyone who is familiar with Tokidoki, it was very obvious.

Another LeSportsac bag made an appearance during a later segment when Joe Zee (the fashion director at Elle magazine) was critiquing women's outfits at Chicago's Union Station during their morning commute. One woman had a LeSportsac handbag in the Hawaii-only released "Boutique" print and he asked her if the bag was hers, or her teenage daughters?!?! She looked kind of insulted when he said that, but they didn't follow up with her like they did with the other woman (who they ended up giving some generic leather messenger bag to replace her ciao ciao).

I was so aggravated after watching the show that I promptly switched all of my work stuff out of the Coach Poppy tote that my husband bought me for our anniversary last month and into my Concerto Punk Graziosa. I felt like I wanted to make a statement, even if the only person who realized I was doing it was me! I feel like these stylists want to make us all look like fashion clones.

How many "fashionistas" can say that they've met the designer of their handbag? I've been lucky to meet Simone Legno twice, and he is such a lovely person.

that is one big truckload of carp!!! i'm going to be 56 later this month, and I carry tokidoki, as well as other 'cartoony' bags. i have a bfree bag that everybody loves.

if i wore the bag with pink tights, or a mini skirt, maybe that would be wrong. i wish these stylists would just shut up. what i wear it my business.

if i want to run around with everything hanging out (i don't), as long as nothing bumps into anybody else, it's MY business. life is difficult enough without listening to these so-called 'experts'. what, they have PhDs in appearances? give me a break. these people are so full of themselves!

the whole world is not beautiful and young! older folks can have fun, too!

ok. did i say enough?
did i answer your question?

sorry for the long post.

my post was really directed at those oprah folks. i'm disappointed in them. i always thought oprah was the mistress of sensibility. i saw those before and after photos. if she took the bag and lifted it up a bit, it would be fine. the after was a joke. those shoes and tights are awful. and that outfit is all uncomfortable and dry-clean only!

thanks for the post nyshopaholic. please don't think any of my annoyed words were directed at you!!!!

i am carrying my tutti bv today. i am going to carry my eco mondo carezza tomorrow.

my mom is 57 and every time i buy a toki, she wants one.

what is fashion anyway? yeah, there is always some sort of trend, but who created those trend? these same so called 'fashion stylist'? and does it mean a lot of ppl wearing the same thing, it is a trend and you can call it fashion? i don't think so.

just wear what make you feel happy and good about yourself.. who cares what those so called 'fashion critics' say?!? total bs.

The Oprah stylist can have an opinion on "fun print" bags. But who really cares what the stylist thinks? Do what you like and don't worry about anyone else's opinion. If a person of any age enjoys using a Tokidoki purse then it just shows that they like a fun purse to tote around town. My best friend is in her late 40's and loves Tokidoki - those purses make her happy! She refuses to pay for a designer purse (Louis Vuitton, etc.) because she would rather have several Tokidokis than one expensive designer purse.

I like Tokidoki also and have a few of their purses but I also have several designer purses. Tokidoki purses are fun/cute and easy to use - especially in bad weather.

I like Oprah, but just because she has someone on her show who thinks fun purses are too young for a mature person doesn't mean that I will stop using Tokidoki!!!

Bunnyville: No worries! I was also very disappointed with this Oprah show. Now I remember why I don't watch Oprah on a regular basis

d1000: My mom is also 50+ and she absolutely her Tokidoki Buon Viaggios! In fact, it's the only style of bag that she's used since she discovered them two years ago! She is always telling me about people stopping her to compliment her Tokidoki bags when she's at work or out shopping.

I truly believe that life is too short to care what other people think about you- what you are wearing, what bag you are carrying, what kind of car you drive, etc. Now I do what makes ME happy!

In the before, she needed a haircut and a shorter purse strap and she'd look fabulous. In the after, she looks generic and stern. It's ok to still be fun, and there's no fun in her after outfit.

But I haven't been able to watch Oprah for years and years now.

can someone please tell me why people like LeSportsac bags? I just can't understand! I don't mean to be rude, because I really want to understand.

Lesportsac bags are light, they hold a lot of stuff, have many compartments, are inexpensive (relative to other bags), and are fun. i also like kipling. that's what i've been carrying lately.

I really like some of the prints--lately i have not been all that impressed with their print selection, which is fine, because it saves me money!

i think that some of the prints and some of the styles are just plain awful. those new red and gold bags are horrid. i don't understand any of the solids or plaids. why bother with solids? many of the stripes are ho-hum, and some of the prints just don't appeal to me. so i guess that i'm a selective lesportsac fan!!!!!

nicolem, there are ppl who like something and others don't. so it's hard to understand, not just for lesportsac, but anything else.

i like lesportsac cuz...
- material is light weight and can be washed
- fun prints , but i also have solid color ones

i carry a lesportsac bag most of the time... to work and go out...
i just like it... i just cannot picture myself carrying a leather bag (just an example)... it's just not me...

Never one to watch/like/tolerate Oprah shows sorry I don't believe a thing she says. Companies pay hefty sums of money to get her to publicize their product! I do however respect and watch Tyra Bank's shows.

As for age and Toki, who really cares?!? You be who you want to be. Period.

HELL u GO GIRLS!!! I read this thread, and I was floored and absolutely appalled at OPRAH. Doesn't she preach "BE TRUE TO YOURSELF and to be all that u can be or want to be???". This is absolutely hypocritical of her, and her show. i say we write to her producers to get that bag/fashion expert banned from her show.

THIS IS WHY I DO NOT CARRY GENERIC LEATHER PLAIN BAGS...cus thats just what it is, generic. like i said on another thread, people who stare, critize and think toki bags are inapproriate have no imagination and creativity. i don't freakin care what people think. I AM NOT A FOLLOWER, I AM AN INNOVATOR AND IF I LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT, I WOULD RATHER BE AN IDIOT INNOVATOR!

and while i am ranting, as i hate hypocrites, does anyone recall that guy judge on the panel who dresses really wacko on that runway model competition show of what i think is Tyra Bank's??? NOW, I think he dresses outlandishly, and wacko (ie big honking huge bow in his head, huge poofy sleeve top over a dress shirt...etc etc), but YET HE IS CONSIDERED A FASHION EXPERT ABLE TO JUDGE A WINNER OF A TOP NOTCH MODEL COMPETITION....does anyone else see the hypocrisy/double standard in all this????

as far as i'm concerned, that so called "fashion expert" on OPRAH can EAT MY SHORTS.

and middle finger up.

Hi-I've never posted on this thread before, but I have been collecting LeSportsac for years. I have about 40 or more pieces, no Tokidoki, but classic LeSportsac and also LAMB LeSportsac by Gwen Steffani. I am 42, and I could care less what anyone thinks about my handbag selections. It seems to me these so called experts just suck all of the personality and individuality out of anyone getting a fashion makeover.

As to nicolem's query as to why anyone likes LeSportsac, they are lightweight (my LAMB lux bags kill my arm by the end of the day), have fun and quirky prints, they neatly organize all my stuff, they are great for bad weather-no worries about water stains, and best of all they are washable. Try going to a farm with your kids with an expensive leather bag-just wash the LeSportsac and it is as good as new. Also, if you have ever have been in an hospital ICU, its great to be able to decontaminate and wash the bag. Once my 3 year old nephew dumped a bowl of salsa into my LAMB LeSportsac-gross, but I just washed it and it was a good as new. A leather bag would have been ruined.

One of the best compliments I have received was that my handbags fit my personality perfectly!

Oprah's wildly uninformed on a lot of things, so I'm not surprised she'd have a stylist that can't identify (or appreciate) a LeSportsac bag.

ITA with this statement!! I cannot believe that they made fun of her for having a toki bag!!! So rude My mom is 50+ and she LOVES her tokidoki bags. She wears them with pride and I have to say she looks cute carrying them! No one can tell someone else what they should like and how to blend in to society, that's just not fair. I was never a fan of Oprah. I don't understand why she's so great or why everyone loves her so much. I just never got it.
