It seemed like it was loosely based on a D Bag Bauletto but with more hardware and different styling. It didn't look like a Tod's, know what I mean?
Why do they do that??? It's frustrating because the reason I love Tod's is because I love their bags, the leather the style, etc., not just for the name so when I see a Tod's store, I expect that they will have the same quality that upholds their name. Very disappointing.
So, now I'm left with deciding is it worth it to pay top dollar for "real" Tod's bag in a boutique or buy a lower-end "fake" made-for-factory bag at half the price. It's almost like being a fake without really being a fake. When I buy Tod's I want to know that I'm buying the quality that the name represents and in this case I don't get that quality, but a cheaper version that they slap their name onto. It's a dilemma...

I think the outlet allows "casual" consumers the opportunity to own the TOD'S brand at discounted prices. Consumers who want the authentic, "I saw it in Vogue" TOD'S brand are not the target audience.
As for myself, if I am going to be pay over $700 for any handbag, I want it to be the authentic "I saw it in Vogue", high quality handbag. :)

the outlet one that I got... it was in winter 2009 and it was from 2 seasons ago (so spring 2009 and I was thinking about getting the same bag in the boutique) however I will admit that the last few times that I have gone to the outlets that I have seen the bag styles and quality have gone dramatically down hill from what they once were, you can tell which are 'last seasons bags' from the ones that were made for the outlets as well.
I understand the reasons behind the choice however I don't think that the quality of the bag should suffer as it has, and if that is the case I will have to just go to the boutiques now instead.

Hi ladies, i'm glad to have found this thread because that was what i has been wondering about since i last visited Tod's.
I had fallen in love with a D Bag Bauletto that i saw hanging off the shoulders of model Ruby Aldridge, did some research about Tod's and read how great their quality and craftsmanship was, how they refuse to produce in China, then flew down to the flagship store in Singapore, very sure that i would be walking away with that bag. Alas i was severely underwhelmed by how the leather, and even the lining felt. I have no qualms about shelling out for top quality leather and beautiful craftsmanship but Tod's was far from what i expected.
The leather seemed mediocre at best, the zip wasn't smooth, the lining felt cheap and the stitches that held them together looked loose. Maybe like what you'd expect from a mid-range brand like Coach? Not even close to Givenchy or Celine. The SA told me that there was a higher end version of the same bag (this was about 1.5k and the higher end was about 4k) and i thought that the price jump was just crazy and i could buy a Bottega Veneta instead.
Super disappointed because i love the design.
The bag in question:
