What brand are ladies carrying in France and Italy?

  1. I haven't been to Europe in ages but I used to live in Paris and travel to Italy alot (my cousins lived there) and I just would like to know in general, what brand bags are the fashionable women carrying these days? TIA.

  2. I was in France & Italy in April-May 2007. I'm not sure if this is fashionable enough, but in Paris, alot of locals carry Longchamp esp. the pliage. Locals--as in those who take the metro. Same with Rome, Milan, & Venice. Chanel, Gucci,Prada, Hermes,& LV are visible but not as much as Longchamp. This is my observation when I went to this cities taking the metro and train. When I strolled at Champs-Elysees, LV's are very visible amongs the crowd. I guess it all depends on the area, I mean, I hardly saw locals carrying LV's in the metro.

  3. I haven't been to France lately, but threads on this board suggest that these brands are also popular there:

    Gerard Darel:
www.gerarddarel.com (on the arm of every Parisian woman, so they say)

    Vanessa Bruno:
www.vanessabruno.com (on the other arm of every Parisian woman, so others say)

Sequoia -- this is my new favorite line

    Un après midi de chien

    Lancel:
    http://www.lancel.com/?r=1&Largeur=1440&Hauteur=900

    www.goyard.com (very expensive; conservative)

    agnes b: http://www.agnesb.com/front/europe_en.jsp

    www.lamarthe.com

    http://www.herve-chapelier.com/rayon.asp?idcat1=1&intitCat1=Bags
(and you probably know these similar ones)

    Karine Dupont: (very popular, cute)

And I don't know if it's popular, but I also heard of this one.

  4. I hear Gerard Darel a lot..

  5. I did see lots of GD's on the arm of Parisian women when we were there in May. Lots of Longchamp Le Pliage too.

  6. Love Agnes B too!

  7. I was just in Paris for two weeks.

I noticed an abundance of Longchamp.
I saw a few Chloes, Vuitton. Some Dior. The Muse bag seemed to be the most popular designer bag behind the lower end Longchamp.

  8. I saw alot of Longchamp in Paris too!

  9. You can always look at the sartorialist. I think he's in Italy right now.

  10. Rumor has it Balenciaga!

  11. I was in Paris for a week a few weeks ago and since I've never been there I was suprised to not see brand bags like we carry in the U.S. I saw only 1 french person with an LV. 1. Not one gucci, i think 1 mj and the only brand I saw people carry was Longchamp. But it wasn't that prevalent either. Everyone seemed to have their own very personal style, and they were not trying to carry name brand bags. I was really suprised. I did see a few LV's and Guccis (literally only a few), and they were all tourists, like myself. Needless to say, I was still quite happy to go over to LV and pick up a new handbag for myself..

  12. ^^I've heard the same thing too. (I haven't been to Paris in a while) - but that only the rich tourists carry the expensive brands. Parisians were more likely to have mid-range or no-name brands. I guess more individual style?

  13. I saw a lot of Balenciaga in Paris when I visited last month.

  14. Wow, ThisIsMyPurse -- great post! I had fun looking.
I agree that the Parisians are iconic in style. They each make their own style. No one carries Vuitton except movie stars and American ladies...

  15. Thanks everyone for your responses. I'd love to go and visit soon.
