Stupid Question

Nah, I don't think that's a stupid question at all! Lemme tell ya something. When I was calling around trying to find my brown leather coffer a few months ago, I called the Miu Miu store in Soho (I'm in NY). I asked (tryin' to sound all sophisticated...) "Do you have the coffer in brown leather at your store"? I pronounced coffer like "gopher". The SA, very politely said "the coffer...?", like "cah-fer". I was like, he he, erm, yes:shame: . When I'd hear myself say coffer (cah-fer), I swore I was sayin' it wrong! I thought it sounded too Noo Yawk. I was like, it can't be pronounced cah-fer! It's European and fancy! Lesson learned.

It's the same as when you hear people talking about their business doing well: the coffers are overflowing.

I swiped this off Dictionary.com:
1.a box or chest, esp. one for valuables.
2.coffers, a treasury; funds: The coffers of the organization were rapidly filled by the contributions.
3.any of various boxlike enclosures, as a cofferdam.

Certainly explains the naming of the bag, doesn't it?
