Strange rash.

  1. I did a search on rash and didn't find what I was looking for.

My Papillon started getting a bald spot on his thigh in september so I took him to the vet and they gave me a spray to use. I used it as advised but the spot kept getting worse. I took my little boy back and was given a stronger spray and oral medication. Its all gone and the spot is huge now spreading and peeling leaving red inflammed skin. My little boy has lost fur on his entire left thigh and with papillons it takes years to get their gorgeous coat back. I have one more appointment on monday to see if they know what it is or to refer me to a skin specialist.

Anyone ever had this happen with their babies? I mean I am so worried and he cant tell me if it hurts or anything. He now cowars away when he sees me with the med spray :crybaby:

  2. I am so very very sorry your baby and you are suffering. I don't know what is wrong with him, but it is a really good thing you're going back to the vet.

Have they done a skin biopsy to test for allergies or a bug bite? Have they considered mange? I know that sounds scary, but it is so treatable. There may be a pet dermatologist in your area that your regular vet can refer you to.

Those are a couple of questions I might ask the vet when you go in tomorrow.

One of my dogs (not a papillon) had similar sounding rashes as yours on a couple of occasions. Once she was stung by a bee or wasp and she had to get antibiotics and spray to clear that up. The vet suspected mange at first, but the biopsy showed it was a sting of some sort.

She's also allergic to the regular shampoo that the groomer uses so she'll get horrible scabs and rashes and lose her hair if the groomer forgets to use the medicated kind.

I'm sending wishes for a healthy quick recovery your way.
