Speedy lock: where do you keep it?

For those of you who keep your locks on the outside leaf... doesn't the lock turn the leather a darker shade?
I also heard that the lock stretches out the leaf.
Have you guys experienced this or not?

Had my DAmier speedy's leaf with the lock on...all three years that I owned this bag...no stretching....cant tell about the color...not that I notice....

I hook it on the hole on the leaf, but not the zippy part!!

I hang the lock on the tab. I keep the keys separately at home.

By saying on the "outside" do you mean on the leaf? If so, what about on the front at the bottom of the handle? Does anyone do that? Like a purse charm? Or is that just wrong? I just got my Damier Speedy 30 today. I put mine on there. I think it looks cute.
