If the Shoe Fits: The Roger Vivier Book Launch Party in NYC
Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world. These words, attributed to Bette Midler, greeted guests as they walked up the stairs of the French Embassy in New York last night to celebrate a new book from Roger Vivier. The iconic French shoe brand decked out the space in giant paper flowers and oversize prints from the tome, including images of Brigitte Bardot in thigh-high patent leather boots, Catherine Deneuve in the buckle pumps she made famous in the 1967 film Belle de Jour, and the brands legendary Virgule (comma) heels. The storied labels history is obviously rich (I just found out he invented the stiletto heel! confessed Coco Rocha), but along with archival magazine pages, scrapbook scans, and ornate sketches, the book includes a look at where the brand currently stands, examining its relationship with both past and future. After ten years, I think we can ask, What is Roger Vivier today? said cohost Bruno Frisoni, who was named creative director a decade ago.
