Thursday, April 18, 2013. A beautiful sunny Spring day, yesterday in New York, with temperatures hovering in the low 70s and perfect.

Down at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building of the New York Public Library on 42nd and Fifth, they held the annual Library Lunch. Following the actual luncheon, there was a conversation of the Classics moderated by David Remnick, editor of the New Yorker, with Rebecca Mead on George Eliot's “Middlemarch” and novelist Gary Shteyngart on Philip Roth's “Portnoy's Complaint.”

The co-chairs of the Library luncheon this year were Lea Brokaw, Danielle Ganek, Shala Monroque, David Remnick, Elizabeth Rohatyn and Olga Votis. The lunch was sponsored by Asprey.

If the Shoe Fits: The Roger Vivier Book Launch Party in NYC

“Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world.” These words, attributed to Bette Midler, greeted guests as they walked up the stairs of the French Embassy in New York last night to celebrate a new book from Roger Vivier. The iconic French shoe brand decked out the space in giant paper flowers and oversize prints from the tome, including images of Brigitte Bardot in thigh-high patent leather boots, Catherine Deneuve in the buckle pumps she made famous in the 1967 film Belle de Jour, and the brand’s legendary Virgule (“comma”) heels. The storied label’s history is obviously rich (“I just found out he invented the stiletto heel!” confessed Coco Rocha), but along with archival magazine pages, scrapbook scans, and ornate sketches, the book includes a look at where the brand currently stands, examining its relationship with both past and future. “After ten years, I think we can ask, ‘What is Roger Vivier today?’ ” said cohost Bruno Frisoni, who was named creative director a decade ago.

I love her expression of style. I may not wear much of what she wears but I love her confidence. This woman is fierce and is a total inspiration. She's also adorable with a winning smile.
