Rude Neiman's SA bashing on Chloe Paddies!!

The HILARIOUS part about this whole "obviously I have no style" debaucle is that I seriously NEVER EVER EVER get compliments on my LV mono bags. Ever since I got my medium "Brun" paddy I have had numerous compliments on it. Even my best friend, who will never understand my handbag fetish, said she loved my Paddy and was totally "over" anything LV:nuts:

Thanks for your fantastic post Chloehandbags!! :P

No problem, kristie! :flowers:

Glad you enjoyed my rant!

You know...Part of the reason why I like the Chloe handbags is because where I live NOBODY knows about Chloe. My circle knows about Gucci and Louis Vuitton, but very few people know about Chloe. I am tired of people assuming that my purses are knockoffs, so I decided to switch gears a little bit.

I don't really care about what's in style and what's not. I buy what I like and I wear it. Pooh on the snotty salespeople!

^ MickMick - I'm in St. Louis too and your are right about people not knowing about Chloe. But when I shop Neiman's the SA's swear that people are buying the Elvira and whatever. That freaks me out! I like the Elvira but it seems waaay too fashion forward for this stodgy town. I don't let the stodginess slow me down either!

:wtf:

NO F'N WAY! When I am out and about I NEVER see any fashion-forward handbags. Most people carry D&B or Coach or "faux handbags".

I wouldn't let the SAs tell me the trends. I had a friend that worked in the men's department of Neiman's. Her #1 priority was to sell, sell, sell and recommend, recommend, recommend. She was good. LOL I'm skeptical. I think that if the sales associates see a woman with fabulous handbags or shoes, they WILL try to upsell the newest and shiniest model ;).

Well, this was interesting. Just was in Neiman's while on my way back from out of town funeral and stopped in for some retail therapy. I have to say, the Chloes WERE relegated to a small, small crunched section inside a glass case. I was sad to see this, as Gucci, Balenciaga, Parda, etc all had their huge walls full of all the latest and not so latest, and of course Chanel had it's "boutique" which admittedly it likely deserves. Anyhoo... most of the Chloes were old styles. At least they were in the front case, but still, had a "forgotten look". My patent paddy was displayed proudly (they only have one left) but the rest looked shoved together. I started looking and the SA cheerfully said, let me show you some "newer items" and led me to the Balenciaga.... Sigh. I don't like the Balenciaga really. For the $$ the leather feels thin. I did see some Prada leather that were amazing though, and am considering one in the Nero Cervo... But sadly, the Chloe selection was lacking and maybe refelecting this trend. They need to pay attention and breathe some new life back in?? For those of us who still love the Paddy and Chloe, we'd like to see more than a forgotten section of the store!!

I was in need of a pick me up so badly and without any Chloes to buy, I left with a Botkier that now I have buyer's remorse and have to mail back...:crybaby:

The huge padlock is what attracted me to Chloe and how it Paddies stand out from other designer bags. When you see that huge Padlock you know it's a Chloe Paddington and that's why it'll forever be a classic. I hate those new capsule bags. Bring back the large padlocks!!! :P

Hmm...In South Coast Plaza Nordstroms, Chloe's are displayed at the entrance, proudly next to the latest of Marc Jacobs. Every time I go, there are always new styles on display. According to the SA there, the chloe paddys sell out fast, especially the patented ones. They were having a hard time keeping them in stock. I guess what's displayed at stores really depend on the Buyer's sense of what's "in" But at least in Southern Ca., Chloe is still going strong.
With regard to rude SA, I can only say that they are only trying to make more $$ from sales commission. The sad thing is, when they try to force a sale down one's throat, they are really defeating their own purpose, which is making a sale. Well, these type of SA won't last long, imo, so I pay them no attention.

shopETOH - who knows why they didn't prominently display the Chloes? In my part of the world the one store (okay - so you are only talking ONE store...) that carries them has them front and center. Go figure - since St. Louis is not a fashion mecca for top of the line bags.

I'm not keen on BBags, either, personally. :nogood:

The colours are unrivalled, but as well as the leather being a bit under-par, IMO, I also think the motorcycle bags are pretty dull, design-wise. :shrugs:

They certainly don't seem worth their price, to me. :nogood:

I'd rather hold onto my money, or spend it on other things, than waste it on sub-standard substitutes.

To do that, I think they'd need to employ a new designer.

Paulo may not design the bags, personally, but his IKEA/Marni-ish influence is knocking Chloe waaaaay off course, IMO.

From what I've read and observed, I get the feeling that BBags are a very NY thing.

I guess they suit that hard, very pared down, minimalist aesthetic that still seems to dominate there? I get the feeling that Boho was regarded as an aberration by most NYers and they couldn't wait to get rid of it!

Whereas, I get the feeling that the Californian aesthetic is far more layed back, casual and feminine and in that way, perhaps surprisingly, actually has more in common with the current UK aesthetic.

Currently, when we do 'hard' over here, we tend to soften it and vice versa and we tend to mix dressy with casual, so as not to look too 'try hard' (VB is not typical of the way most people dress over here).

Anyway, if I'm right, that may explain the different biases in different cities, mightn't it?

I tend to agee with acshih...Chloe seems to be going strong where I moved from a year ago & where I've moved to

I miss being a mile or so away from the Saks in Birmingham, Alabama...Chloe had a large beautiful space in the handbag department...prominent front space too! The SA's were the best & when the "Chloe Specialist" was hired she was a great addition & so knowledgeable...never pressure to buy...just wanting the customer to be happy so in the long run they'll return  No tacky attitude such as the SA from Neimans in this post...always "polished" & polite!!

Now I live in Virginia...the closest Saks is 2.5 hours away in Richmond. I was spoiled & didn't even know it! I've made 3 shopping excursions to Richmond & the SA's seem fine & have a lovely space in that store as well. My hubby knew I was looking for a patent paddy recently because they couldn't keep them in the Birmingham store...had to find one in New York & they were sold out except for the floor model!!

It's sad to hear how the Chloe's were relegated to such an undesirable space in the Neiman's shop ETOH was in & even more horrific... crunching the leather  Oh well...guess you can't be front & center all the time!!

Just as an aside...when hubby bought my recent paddy they were afraid they would have to sell him the floor model & he said that was fine as long as it looked o.k. The SA who was helping him was checking it over when the very friendly "Chloe Specialist" came over to introduce herself & say she would look for one that had not been a sample & he was assuring her it seemed fine. Anyway, in making conversation, he asked about the new Marni guy( I call him that since I tend to forget his name) & she just raved about his popularity within & outside of the company.

Now, I know people will think well DUH...of course she adores him...but I have to tell you...DH was very struck with the excitement of which she spoke of him & all they feel he brings to Chloe! He has a great BS barometer & she didn't raise his antennae one bit!!! He even pressed her a bit to see if she was aware of the possibility that many devotees are more than dissapointed at Phoebe's departure & she seemed genuinely STUNNED so he played a little dumb...not mentioning this forum. Based on her reactions, I think they are also thrilled with the financial status of the brand since his reign. It's got me thinking lots of woman who buy all types of "designer bags" are not even aware of wonderful forums such as ours...oh well...their loss. I'm also not worried about Chloe which is kinda silly that I was a bit!!!

^That was a smart observation Susie - and makes sense coming from a crackerjack salesperson. It makes me laugh when I think about all the classic Paddies still on hand in our local Neiman's. I know of gals that are immediately entranced by the bag and they are relatively clueless about its fashion history. As far as I'm concerned the Paddington has reached iconic status and will continue to be a standard bearer for the brand. Chloe knows this as well and counts on this style to keep making money. If people want to be slavish trend followers - have at it. Some will be impressed with your savviness. Others will not care. Trend following and STYLE are two different things in my book and I'd much rather be about style. The best dressed woman I know has no money and looks fantastic every time I see her. She believes there is no such thing as "out" in fashion. If it works on you and makes you happy - keep wearing it. That's your "style".

My sentiments EXACTLY! I finally figured out why I have so many Chloes, mostly the paddingtons....it is such a stunning bag that it looks wonderful in every color! Every time I say to myself, "okay...that's it now," I see ANOTHER one I want!!! I just bought the '05 craie medium from a PF'r that had one in MINT condition!! And I have just about every other "white" too, but I always lusted after that craie from '05! I know that some of the SAs say, "Oh, they're out now...blah, blah, blah..." but as far as I am concerned they couldn't be more IN...I also think it's a classic that will always have "cache" but the reason I WEAR it is because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the paddingtons!!!!

Well that's certainly not the feeling I get, I'm afraid. :nogood:

^^Hmmm girls?? From our Chloe purse forum perspective it sure seems like the new regime is not keeping up with the successes of the past. While the latest Spring line that we saw in the fashion show was not popular at all with us, you have to wonder what is the consensus in the rest of the world. We forget that WE are not the entire Chloe universe - LOL! I wonder how many of us actually WEAR any of the clothes? Okay - we sometimes buy the footwear I guess. It did give me pause to realize that there were women buying Chloe bags at my Neimans that would never post here!!! Imagine that?!:tpfrox:

too bad for those rude SA (especially those that depends on commissions) they will regret it when they get their paychecks!!! I personally don't own any Chloe bags YET (hoping to buy my first bag next year). But who cares if you're not wearing the "IT" bag of the year, wear what you like and what you want. Besides it's such a huge waste to wear such a beautiful bag for just one year/season.
