Qn on jade bangle

Update on the bangle I wanted - it's on its way to my auntie! Ended up asking another auntie since the original one wasn't keen on the idea at all.

Once it arrives she'll take it for an appraisal to double check, then it'll be brought to the UK by my cousin at the end of September :yahoo:

Pics of it here http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=18511800423&

The lavender stole my heart !:woot:
For those of you who have jade bangles, do you have the rounded ones like the one above or the flat inner bangles ? How do you choose which bangle and why ? ;)

Bangles with flat inner rims are more comfortable to wear because it lies flush against your wrist, and look nicer irl due to bigger outer surface area -> more on display. Rounded bangles tend to be more photogenic, have higher investment value, and are preferred by collectors. However if you're buying one to wear, it comes down to personal preference and the size/shape of your wrist.

I went for flat inner rim because I've tried both types - my fake bangle is flat, sister's is all round - and didn't like the latter as much.

As for size, apparently the all round bangles run bigger. For example, if you normally need at least 57mm in flat bangles, you could also wear a 55mm round one.

Seems like flat inner rim is more comfortable.
Your bangle looks very beautiful, heirloom like. I hope you get it soon. I copy the pictures from the link to share with everyone if you don't mind.

Just wondering if someone could comment on this bangle? (I don't know anything about it, but I think it's nephrite?) Someone traded it for a handbag that I had one time. Probably not very valuable, but I must admit, I do like the cool smoothness of it and it seems to be untreated.

Comments?

Hmmm not sure either... judging by the photos the colour doesn't seem like jadeite. At least, I haven't seen any jadeite in that colour, could you have it appraised anywhere?

Not anywhere near where I live! (Small town interior B.C.) Perhaps sometime when I go to Vancouver, I will take it & see what I can find out. From everything I've seen online it looks like Nephrite. (Maybe local jade, I don't know.)

I just bought this off ebay from a jade seller.. Hopefully it is legit, the seller told me i can check it, money back guarantee.. Fingers cross
What do you guys think ?:P

No red flags, but would it be possible to ask the seller for photos holding the bangle under natural light (without the light shining directly through it since this increases perceived translucence), from a few different angles? It's just that jade looks a lot more translucent against a black background, as well as when held in front of a light source, which means when you receive the real thing it's likely that it wouldn't look as good.

Included a few examples below.

Especially the pale green bangle in the photo. It looks translucency in the like.. but opaque in the box..

The lighting does make a big difference. I have the link here
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/261066223130?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
i gave the seller a best offer of half the asking price.. and it was accepted.. i am feeling suspicious now.. or am i having buyer's remorse..

Prettypeonies, does the seller have a certificate indicating that the bracelet is grade A? Some do, which will be included in the item, or you can request that they send it to you.

Having had a look at a few of the seller's bangles, I don't see any obvious signs that they're treated, which is a plus. However, it does concern me that they say the photos are taken "under natural daylight" yet they have so many black backgrounds. General consensus on the jade forums I've been visiting have been that buyers should avoid purchasing based purely on these types of photos, because black backgrounds are excellent at hiding flaws, and enhancing the look of jade.

For example, 4th photo in the listing body shows a darker patch on the bangle, which somehow magically disappeared in the black background photos.

Haven't been able to find any "icy white" bangles so far as a comparison... I guess this is quite similar http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=12935673439& (≈$1400) though judging by photos, it doesn't look as translucent as the one you purchased.

I really hope your bangle looks identical as the seller's photos - icy white bangles are very beautiful - but unfortunately, I doubt the real thing would look as nice
