The front pockets close with one snap. I find that with the bag on my shoulder I can use the pocket that is toward the front without looking or taking the bag off my shoulder. There is also a handy little luggage tag (removable) that hangs off the shoulder strap that I could put a bus pass in. It is a really wonderful bag ! Thanks for all the compliments
