Workplace My Strange Coworker :/

thank you guys for your comments & suggestions. my other coworkers do notice she's still around but i don't think all of them know her contract has expired. anyways, thank you! i will find out very soon

Are other people aware she is there? Is she there all day? You ABSOLUTELY need to ask your supervisor what's going on, and if she does not work there any longer someone needs to escort her out and take her pass/keys whatever.

If this person is there for no reason except that they have nothing better to do that is incredibly strange and would lead me to believe she is not entirely stable. If your supervisor thinks it's alright for her to hang around - it's not.

I wuld also think that would be a liability for the company to have someone there who isn't employed.. What if she "falls"? Harrasses people? Steals? Decides to sue the company for some odd thing?

I agree i would totally ask your supervisor "did so and so's contract get extended because shes been hanging out here everyday"
Maybe it was something just over looked... HR though manager was doing it manager thought HR was doing it...

So, did you ask your boss if her contract was extended?

Wow this is very strange, doesn't she has a feeling of shame to show up at the office while her contract has already ended? Didn't her supervisor said anything?

This is so very strange :weird:

I'm the kind of person who would just come out and ask, "why do you keep coming here every day when you don't work here anymore?"
Umm. she's been sharing the same office with me for more than 2 years. she's a nice person. i have no intention to kick her out of the office. i just wanna help her to get back to her own life by making her realize she's no longer working here and she has to move on.

but it's just hard to speak from my own mouth :hrmm:

I'm sure she's nice but intrusive is intrusive. Its just weird. As nice as it sounds to help her get back to her own life remember thats not your job. She's a grown woman. I think a good way to help her realize she doesn't work there anymore is to tell her. You don't have to be mean about it. Just say it honestly, that you are perplexed by her presence. Something like, "you know I think you are the cats pajama's and all that but why do you keep coming in when you don't have to?"

i have just talked to the office manager. i believe she is the right person to talk to my ex-coworker and understand what's going on and come up with a solution.

:roflmfao: and yes I agree with this entire post

Not sure what type of corporate environment you work in, but with my employer, your badge/access would be rescinded on your last day & if you showed up again, security would/could escort you out. If you continued to show up... the police would be escorting you out & charging you with trespassing!

well, i think if i report this to our Securities Dept, they might do the same. but, as i said, this is not what i wanna see. i am hopeful she will walk out of the door soon. thank you for your sharing

Im kinda wondering why this is taking so long... either she works there or not... there isnt much discussion its pretty black and white.
if it was me (i work in medical) id report it to my supervisor an security.
but our place takes everything even email away the DAY your gone at 8am that day when they come in.

my Office Manager has just told me that she will come back to work but next month. well, in my opinion it's okay for her to stay around but isn't it a little bit abnormal? if i have a month's break, i would not choose to go back to my office doing nothing. never mind, now things come clear and i'm happy that her contract will be renewed but just sometime later.

thank you guys for listening to my story and sharing your opinions!

If she's coming back maybe she just wants to stay in tune to whats going on. Maybe she likes it there and likes the people and would like to be FT. Either way it shouldn't take up any more of your time wondering. As long as she doesn't impede your job performance she can be wherever she wants to be. If upper management doesn't care you shouldn't either. Maybe they told her its okay.
