In Addition to Hermes ...

  1. I know it's a given by now that Hermes is one of the major interests that many of us on this forum share. However, in addition to Hermes, what are some of your other interest/passion/obsession?

And to keep this on topic, if you can custom-design your own Hermes scarf, what would you like on there?

    I guess I'll start ...

Faberge Eggs: Love collecting them, love the details, the history, the craftsmanship, and I LOVE to learn more about them whenever possible
Anime & Manga: I love Japanese animation and Japanese comics. Granted, it does depend on what genre, character designs, and storyline though
Cosplay: Related to anime and manga. I used to go to anime conventions and dress up as the anime characters. Con-hopping was one of the things I used to do when I was in school.
Astrophysics: Anything related to astronomy, physics, space-time continuum. I'm a huge astronomy buff and one of the things I do everyday is get on space.com to read the newest articles - especially topics related to blackholes, wormholes, dark matters and dark energy.
Food: Food is important to me. I love to try out new food and the spicier they are, the better! I have been known to drive several hours or walk several hours in the snow just to get a particular food that i like.
Travel: I love to travel. I'm one of those people who doesnt' mind living out of hotels and going on red-eye flights the last minute. I see traveling as a rare opportunity to see the world and undestand other cultures. One of the places I'd love to go is the Silk Road.

As for Hermes scarf, I think I'd love to have someone paint a gorgeous picture of my puppy on there and decorate it with flowers and any other gorgeous motifs and patterns.

  2. very nice thread kou ! :flowers:

jewelery: well as some of you already know i am mad about jewelery. i love the creativity the workmanship etc and of course the knowlede of wearing "history of mother nature" around the neck.

art and interior design: i am a huuuuge fan of italian modern furniture or bauhaus classics. my home is my cocoon where i recharge my batteries so it has to be perfect and i need to able to breathe there. and of course i want that everything screams "me" that is what my friends say "you can feel everything is just so you"

travel: there is so much more out there to discover then what we already know and i love to discover new places different cultures etc

  3. Love this thread. Other than Hermes, my interests are:
Family: Just obsessed with my little one - he is so damn cute. I truly enjoy spending all of my free time with my family. They are my number one priority and as passionate as I may be about Hermes or fashion, I am immeasurably more passionate about them!
Fashion/Shoes/Jewelry: I just really enjoy looking, buying, shopping and reading anything fashion related. Aside from handbags, I am a total shoe whore. Love them! Cannot have enough! Now, if I could just buy everything I wanted, that would be great!
Pilates: I am an addict. I love it so much that I bought my own reformer for the house. Of course, I have been so busy with everything else, that I have not had nearly enough time to use it!
Food/Wine: Just enjoy both with a passion:p The more the merrier!
Antiques: What's not to love. I have inherited a few pieces that have really sparked my interest. I hope to one day amass a substantial collection for my home.
Travel: My husband and I used to travel a few times a year before we had benjamin. I hope to resume our travels as there are so many places in the world I would love to experience. Of course, a nice day at the beach would be fine!
tPF: Yeah, I am a total addict. I guess it is only fair that I put that in the list.

Hermes Scarf: I would love a scarf with varying shades of peonies (pinks, whites, etc), with hints of baby blue in the design. Peonies are one of my most favorite flowers!

  4. My turn

Video/PC Games: I am obsessed with them. I played Dark Age of Camelot, Final Fantasy, World of Warcraft, Starcraft, Age of Nations..all those strategy games!!

Anime/Manga: I got hooked on these while I was living in Taiwan. I like to read the manga more than watch anime, but I love both!! I've been watching Gantz and Full Metal Alchemist lately ;)

TV Dramas: Lately they've been coming out with a lot of good Korean TV dramas...I just love them!! I also love watching Taiwanese and Japaense TV Dramas.

Shopping: I am obsessed with this, as probabaly most of you are  When I'm bored/depressed/happy, I take a trip to the mall. The only thing I don't like about my mall is that there is no Hermes. It's just been in the past 5 years that they opened up Gucci, Tiffany's, LV.

Food: I've been on a sushi and korean food kick lately, so I've been trying out the resteraunts near me. They also opened a lollicup 30-40 minutes from me, but I'll drive to eat there

Travel: I've been all around the Asian countries..hoping to visit Europe soon!!

I'm not sure what I would want in a Hermes scarf...I love flowers and horses and I love colors..but probably something that would match with jeans

  5. Ack!! Forgot to mention couple of other things. Ok ok, top priorities are:

Family: I'm very close with my family and for me they always come first, especially my parents, grandparents, my sis, and my pup ...
Friends: I have many acquaintances but not many friends. I'm an eccentric person so my friends are pretty limited and eccentric in scope as well. They're very important to me and they definitely take precedence to my SO. I'm a big believer of "Bros before H*es".:p

Then these which I've already mentioned but will recap:

  6. Travel: I love to get on a plane and go places I have never been. I love exploring new cities, even getting lost because those are the times that I find the most interesting sites, shops, restaurants.

Model Homes: I love to go visit new neighborhoods that have model homes. My best friend and I go "house-hunting" a couple of times a month. It gives me ideas on ways to decorate my house.

Reading: I am addicted to books and magazines. Every employee at my Border's knows my name.

Old Movies: I mean movies from the 40s,50s and early 60s. I love the way women dressed in those pictures. I love Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn movies. And I love movies that take place in other countries like Rome Adventure and Charade.

For my scarf, I think I would like a design that was dedicated to the history of the Kelly. I would love it to be in shades of pink and rose with maybe a hint of baby blue.

Oh, and one more thing, I REALLY LOVE PARIS, I wish I could live there.

  7. Travel - I used to spend a big portion of my salary on travelling. Throughout the year, I would normally take a longer 3-4 week holiday on my own (or sometimes with my husband) exploring other countries. Aside from that, I would also take many weekend trips to visit a city and a shorter 1-week holiday!

It's also good that get to go on some business trips and I combine it with shopping!

This year is actually pretty quiet but I've already been to:
    - Japan
    - Several cities in Germany
    - Milan
    - Paris
    - Marbella
    - Several Swiss cities
    - London, 3 times (twice on business)
    - New York City and Washington, D.C. (business)
    - Brazil (business)

Then, I still have pending for this year:
    - Luxembourg
    - Greece
    - Paris again
    - Miami (business)
    - Argentina (business)

... and some other spontaneous trips that I think of at the last moment.

Shopping - I like shopping, but I think I need to do it less.

For my scarf, I'd like a portrait of my family and frame it!

  8. Great thread!

    My other interests include:
Family My DH and my dog Bailey are my world.
Food I love cooking, watching the Food Network, going to Williams Sonoma/Sur La Table/this cool grocery store I just found here that has all kinds of international food and great produce.

  10. ohh forgot scarf..... a really big peace sign....really bright pinks and oranges with the proceeds going to the red cross...

  11. food: certified foodie here. love watching the food network (aka. food porn - favorite shows: everyday italian, behind the bash and chefography).

probably been to all the hotspots in my hood so now DH and I pretty much focusing on the up-n-comers. otherwise, i enjoy staying @ home and cooking for family & friends. it's just theraputic and another of expressing creativity in my book.

travel: it's great to get away & leave the country every once in a while. unfortunately due to work, i'm not able to do it as much as i would like.

    places i've been to:
    singapore
    hong kong
    bangkok
    tokyo
    paris
    milan
    venice
    budpest
    london

new places i'm going to (this year):
    zurich
    barcelona

jewelery & fine goods: love!!! totally wish there were more high-end boutiques downtown. but i'm all about quality over quantity. and i'm picky as heck so my collection is small (but well thought out!;) )

family: mine is small - aside fr DH & pup, i don't really have that many relatives that live close by:sad: . we're literally flung all across the globe. but thanks to email & quadband, we do keep in touch.

friends: i have a close knit that i've acquired throughout the years. they're like family to me. can't imagine life w/o them!

hobbies: reading & visiting art museums (especially in foreign countries). i have this weakness for anything beautiful and well-crafted. donating to local charities and handwritten correspondence (another lost art).

shopping: big fan of trunk shows. especially handy when you're usually tied to the desk, like i am. otherwise i'm a big fan of boutiques - usually because of the better customer service.

fitness: weekly yoga (it's all about slow burn, baby!) & bi-weekly jogs (or at least my sorry version of it:p) in my wonderful neighborhood. actually it's my only opportunity to be the "nosey neighbor" and see what everyone else is up to. there's always some type of construction going on in my neck of the woods.

  12. OK.....

Family - of course! As you all know we have a new addition, and I am obsessed with my girls (would love a third, but DH isn't as keen!).....I LOVE being a Mum to girls, and this is coming from someone who isn't very maternal, and swore she would never have kids!

DH - I adore my DH.....he is the true love of my life, such a generous and kind man. Smart, clever, good-looking - what more could a girl ask for??????

Clothing - as some of you know, when I'm not being a full-time Mum, I am a Milliner, and I ADORE my job!! DH & I are members at a few quite exclusive racing clubs (horse racing) and I get the chance to dress up (and I mean dress up!!) several times a year for this...I also have models in a competition called "Fashions on the Field"....so fashion plays a HUGE part in my life.

We are currently renovating our house, and I am obsessed with researching architects and designers. This house we are doing in a Frank-Lloyd Wright type influence, and I am currently madly searching for original Eames and things like that........our last house was turn of the century traditional with antiques. DH and I get along best when we have a house to decorate!!

BOOKS! - Like the pp, I am OBSESSED!! DH has just installed library shelves for me, and he needs to put more in as I have so many goddamn books! I have a thing for large coffee table design books, and collect First Editions (fashion predomintaly)...I have quite the collection........

Grace Kelly - my biggest obsession would have to be the late princess....I have every book ever written about her, in First Edition (seriously).....lots of European Magazines from the 60's - 80's that featured her, ............heck, I even named my first-born "Grace"...LOL!

Golf - DH and I love to play, and of course, I adore allt eh 'preppy' looking clothing!!

As for the scarf - it would have to be fish-themed (predictable).....I just have a thing for fishes and the sea, perhaps the Great Barrier Reef, or something along those lines. (for those who aren't familliar, the Great Barrier Reef is where Nemo is from - LOL!!). In shades of GREEN, my favourite colour!!!

OH! and Jewellery - I would like to collect Lilachs jewellery - LOL!!

  13. Let me know when you are in Zurich! If I'm in town, we can meet up there for coffee!

  14. Love this thread, Kou!

Family/Friends -- I put these in the same category because my family is small (no DH - just me and my mom locally - my brother and SIL live out of town) and I have a network of close friends who are like family. Most of my group have been friends since college and have been hanging together for more than 20 years!

Boston Red Sox!! If this one confuses you, go to Boston Red Sox : History : 2004 World Series Champions for the story. Been a fan since I was a pup and it's my other obsession besides shopping and Hermes!

Travel - Like LaVan, I'm fortunate enough to travel for business a lot and love it. I also love leisure travel and try to combine a business trip with some pleasure. Next week, I will be in London, Dublin and Paris and, in mid-September, I head to California for the second time in a few weeks.

Food/Wine - I'm a foodie and an oenophile/collector. I eat out a lot - both entertaining clients and otherwise - and have a list of the "hot" places in every city I visit that I always need to check off. I had a wine cellar built in my condo a couple of years ago and I'm slowly filling it.

Pilates - seriously addicted. The best total body exercise ever. Period.

Hermes Scarf Design -- (and there probably is one like this...) an Arts and Crafts/William Morris-type design in shades of red, gold and green.....

  15. This is a great thread! Thanks, Kou....

FAMILY/FRIENDS: DH who is still the love of my life after all these years and even when he drives me crazy, DD who despite knowing exactly how to get on my very last nerve is still the love of my life, two very different cats and a dang bird. I have some friends from high school (and that's a long time ago, gang), some friends from adutlhood and some new friends from the PF! These people nuture my life.

JEWELRY: Love to hunt down and collect 18th century European jewelry. I have a nice, small collection of very lovely pieces which I try to wear one of daily.

FASHION & DESIGN: I love excellent design, craftsmanship and construction. This is why I'm passionate about Hermes among some other excellent brands.

READING: I am an AVID reader and my house is overflowing with stacks of hardback books and magazines. Especially coffee-table books on design, jewelry, photography and art. Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, Rex Stout.....

PHOTOGRAPHY: Would like to become better at taking B&W pics....I love off-kilter, slightly grainy shots. They're more interesting to me...

MOVIES: The OLD ones....I have a stack of DVD's I can watch over and over! My fav? Probably every re-make of Pride & Prejudice!

    YOGA!: Keeps me sane....

ITALY: A great passion of mine. Its food, wine, cities, museums, countryside Hill Towns, people. I'm currently in line (it's been bloody two years!) to receive my dual citizenship through direct blood-line. When this happens, I will be so happy you will see me glowing from afar!

HERMES SCARF DESIGN? hmmmm....something that incorporates all the famous buildings/structures of the world. The colossseum, the Eiffle Tower, perhaps the GW Bridge (Statue of Liberty has been over used, IMO... ), Golden Gate Bridge, the Pyramides, etc....all done in Black & White!
