How do you clean your patent leather??

I was able to clean some paint off a pink vernis leather LV bag with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Cleaned off the paint and did absolutely no damage to the patent leather!

For patent leather high end bags I actually spray windex on a paper towel and just wipe. It does the trick for most things like greasy fingerprints etc. and it makes it sparkle!

Once Windex has destroyed the finish on your bag you'll need to get a professional to repair the damage to the top coat. Patent leather cant be spot repaired either so it would be an entire refinish, which would be costly.

Hi, anyone has any experience with dyeing a patent bag. Had a white patent leather bag but there was colour transfer because of storage. Patches here and there. Was thinking if it is possible to dye a patent leather bag.

It can be done, but its not easy. You need to strip off the original top coat. Patent leather top coat is very think, and needs to be to give the depth of gloss. Its not something i'd do unless the bag was ready for the dustbin! if its in good condition, i wouldnt recommend risking it.

I don't have any patent leather bags at this point, but i had a patent leather pair of heels that i wore to a club, and the next day i looked at them in the light and they had these terrible black scuff marks ALL over them. i was really freaked out but i read online to try baby wipes and it actually worked. I just kept rubbing at each scuff and my shoes came out looking brand new. I think they're supposed to be alcohol free. After I was finished I wiped each shoe down with a damp paper towel to try to get off any residue from the baby wipe (I was scared they had something in them that would like eat away at the leather lol). I would try a baby wipe before alcohol or windex because it's probably gentler.

Dear Leather Doc,

Thanks alot for the advice. I still love the bag and will now love its 'flaws' as well. ;)

Hi Hi, Thanks! Might want to try but will be very careful as the bag is still precious to me.

Does anybody know if it is possible to fix spots where shiny part of my patent leather bag came off. My YSL Muse II is pretty old, but I love it to death, I noticed that there are spots where top coat peeled off...Do you think shoe repair guy can re-coat it for me?

Patent leather is very difficult to repair as you cannot match the gloss level without refinishing the entire panel and/or bag. Its not something I'd send to a shoe guy. There are plenty of quality handbag specialists now, and i'd recommend using one of those. In the US you have LMB and Europe you have The Handbag Spa (I think THBS are also in Middle East and Asia, but not sure).
