How do you apply undereye concealer?

I just tried some Chanel concealer under my eye today, and it looked fine, but I think that the SA applied it too close to my eyelid, because a few minutes later it had collected in the very faint lines just under my eye! Not pretty.

I assumed that concealer was to be applied along the bone, like eye cream. Bleh. Does undereye concealer even work at all?

I use Nars concealer with a concealer brush. It really does the trick. (It is not a liquid. It looks like a lipstick.)
