Hair Shedding and thinning

1tbs in hot water or coffee,milk,now I take 2 tbs a day

My mom takes this and my grandmother did as well. She had a head full of thick, long black hair with a few strands of grey. Pretty good for a lady in her 90's when she passed away and my other has big curly full hair.

Sassy - what are the shots for and have you ever thought of getting a second maybe even third opinion from a trichologist?

They're for inflammation and promotes growth

I have thinning hair loss due to PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). It is one of the horrible side effects along with random chin hairs, oily skin and hair, weight gain, irregular periods, the whole nine yards).

One thing I took was a prescription drug called spironolactone. It is a blood pressure medicine that apparently they discovered was a mild anti-androgen. I grew back quite a bit of hair but I hated the way the medicine made me feel.

Now one thing that has helped me is following the diet my doctor has advocated for my health issues: a ketogenic diet (low carb, moderate protein, high fat). My hair is becoming less greasy and not shedding as fast.

I had my yearly checkup with my regular primary doctor on Friday and she took a bunch of test for herself, just to make sure my dermatologist didn't miss anything. She also mentioned spironolactone and something else she wrote down for me. I am just going to stick to everything I am doing now for 6 mos and then look further into other things. They both think it is stress, which I have a lot of right now in my life.

Have you seen a trichologist?

No, but my primary doctor suggested one to me on Friday.

That's good. While dermatologist and primary care doctors have their place, a specialist might be the way to go. They can take follicle test and more bloodwork, finding things the others may have overlooked or didn't even test for.

I was losing a lot of my hair my last year in college (late starter). I'm guessing from the stress. It's slowly started thickening back up but not nearly as thick as it used to me. I'm curious as to what worked for others as well. All great advice so far.

Hi ladies. I'm on the same boat.. when I was young (I'm 32 now) I had super thick straight hair, my hair ties would always break because I had so much hair. The past 3 years I've noticed I shed quite a bit, I see my hair on the floor, in the shower. They don't come out in clumps, but evenly thinning. I tried rogaine, that didn't do anything, I tried it for 6 months. I know it's not a vitamin deficiency or thyroid issues, they have been ruled out .. I don't stress too much. . Maybe my diet?! It's quite depressing actually

Have you seen a dermatologist? Ask them about scalp injections. They work for me. My co-workers says, she gets Vitamin B12 shots in her butt, from her derm, and that helped her with hair loss. I don't get B12 shots, but once a month I get about 15 injections in my scalp. I post a pic I think a few pages back on what she injects into my scalp.

I also have been taking Viviscal since June and notice both have helped me a lot.

Wow thanks so much . I've never heard about that, I'll definitely look into it. Thank you for your help 😚

I've been battling a lifetime of anorexia & along with the fact that I've been dying my naturally dark hair a soft bleach blonde since I was 15 I'm really surprised my hair's still intact!... I've got to give it to my dad who had a full head of dark brown hair up until he died at the young age of 50.

My hair is a lot thinner than I believe it should be. My hairdresser described 'fine hair but a lot of it' {...& it's down to my tush}

I'd definitely put hair loss & thinning down to poor nutrition, since our hair is made up of protein, & if I'm not hitting about 1K calories per day, I highly doubt I'm getting enough protein to make my hair the healthiest it can be.

Rather than hiding the problem, definitely look to your diet & how well you treat your hair & request Rogaine from your GP. It's like the anti-aging retinol for hair!

I have a relaxer on my hair and have always had a problem with breakage in the back. I started using Andrew Lessman's Healthy Hair Skin & Nails about a year ago, and my hair has become long and very thick. I rarely give a two-thumbs up :tup: for a product, but these vitamins are amazing! Now my hairdresser is recommending them to all of her clients, including her daughter. I take 2 every day. I would say that I saw a big change in about 4 months or so.
This is definitely worth a try for anyone whose hair is thinning or breaking off.
