Haggling over H Items -- is it ever done?

hhmmm, I may order a dozen scarves to give ot to all my clients....then accidently forget to send them out!

Surely there is an opportunity for we ladies to take advantage here?

Anyone interested in a discounted scarf scheme?

:roflmfao::roflmfao::roflmfao:

IMO, there is nothing wrong in using an opportunity that exists esp for the good of all. there are several scarfs i would like to have. i wonder....whats the min qty for bag order to get corp. disc?

remember the guy in asians & their birkins thread where he buys lots of birkins as gifts for his mistresses? im sure its under corporate account!:P

First off, I work for one of the world's largest health care companies and we can't say boo to a goose these days without layers and layers of approval. I think Sarbanes-Oxley (I can't spell it but gosh, do I know about it)might put a dent in the corporate thing, at least here in the US.

Another thing, Hermes probably doesn't give discounts for scrathces because a lot of people would scratch/stain etc the item and then say "look, damage, give me a discount!"

I have never haggled at Hermes but would try if I thought it would work. I refuse to be intimidated at shops. Why be embarrased, most of the sales people can't afford the things they are selling in those botiques so why should they judge/snub me?

Why do I get the feeling like there is a sense of mockery at us paying full price for our H purchases? H never goes on discount. Except for sale items or samples. That's a completely cattle of fish .... or things.

Making a comparison with corporate gifts ... are we talking like for like here?

I do not poke my nose into the prices that my DH's PR manager pays for the corporate gifts. I dare assume she gets a discount when she buys in numbers. But never a moment do I expect to be accorded any discount for my personal purchases. (if it is at all possible) Am I stupid? Perhaps. But I will never subject myself to scrutiny by my DH's compliance and audit department. Life gets too complicated after that.

jasperella, your male colleague is obnoxious. :yucky:

To be honest, this thread has gotten me upset a little. So ... who wants to be one up in getting the highest discount on luxury goods?

Wow, I missed a lot being on the other side of the world.

Hey Mrs Sparkles -- I did not mean to upset you or anyone else, or start a contest. I'm sorry if this has gotten upsetting. I had just been very shocked by my totally RUDE and constantly obnoxious colleague (who, by the way, I just called Buffalo Brain this morning. I don't know why I called him that. Buffalos are probably very intelligent creatures). He's an idiot and a blowhard and is always going on about how he can't see how people pay for luxury goods, even though he will pay up for a luxury car which probably depreciates a lot faster. PLUS, this guy is always making up or enhancing stories so he can impress people in a group. I was just putting the scenario to all you lovely tPFers to see what you thought, so I could maybe prove him wrong.

Personally, I never ask for discounts, and I don't think I ever could.

Edit/Add: OK, I've just finally gotten to read this entire thread! It's really gotten interesting!

I was told by someone that H used to give discounts on the jewelry to their VIP customers. Those VIP customers shared info and realised certain people got discount whereas other did not get. They got upset and complained to the store. Since then, they have stopped giving discount. I was told it was few years ago.

For luxury watches, we can get very good discount. Some brands are controlled at certain %. My experience with boutique was: Retangolo watch
I could get 10% off from Bvgalri and 18% off from a known watch retailer for the same watch.

Part of the reason I love Hermes and Louis Vuitton is that their merchandise never goes on sale... the price you see is the price you pay. There is nothing more sickening than seeing the purse you bought last week, on sale for 30% off this week.

I totally agree! I've been burned by that before. One time it was 70% off a Celine "IT bag", a couple of months after I bought mine for full price. :cursing:

I could never take advantage of corporate discounts for my own benefit...:wtf:

It's simply wrong and I could never enjoy a piece that came into my posessoin through such grifting as much than every other piece which I bought as a private customer.

Please excuse me,
but I feel I have to say that this kind of business is very vulgar to me...:shrugs:

I'm going to put this to the test. I'll contact Hermes on behalf of SO's company (yes, he does own a software develoment business) and ask prior to placing an order if they do offer discounts here in the US for corporate gifts.

I don't know, it doesn't seem vulgar to me at all...but then I'm from South Asia and there are few to rival our haggling skills! EDIT: I got this email from Hermes, and now I'll have to talk to someone when they call

To me there is a difference between a corporate discount which is available on an individual basis to a corporation-as-client (which is not unusual and not unlike any other corporate gift program such as those offered by other luxury houses) and going into an Hermes boutique to haggle down a price as if one were in the middle of a souk somewhere.

The latter is simply gauche. The former is an accepted and legitimate business practice between corporations; however, its abuse to benefit persons other than the corporation is a matter of conscience.

You actually put it perfectly!

Update: I was contacted by a lovely person from Hermes (I had to leave my phone number) about a hour ago. For the purchase of the number of scarves I asked for (greater than 10) I was straight out offered a discount of 10%. I didn't even have to ASK whether they could give me a discount!!!

WOW!

I wasn't doubting anyone, but figured that it would be better to verify for myself!

If you buy that amount of one item, the company should give you a discount no matter what IMO.

This thread is really interesting I actually read through it all. You're all wonderful.
