  1. French group wants eBay, Yahoo to pay for counterfeit items
Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal - 2:36 PM PDT Monday

French industry group reportedly plans to go to court seeking damages from eBay Inc., Yahoo Inc. and other Internet auction sites for the sale of counterfeit products on their Web pages.

Reuters reported on Monday that Marc Antoine Jamet, chairman of France's Union of Manufacturers (Unifab), said a complaint will be filed next month against San Jose-based eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY), Sunnyvale-based Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO) and others.

"We think eBay is perfectly capable of policing its site, but they offer to take action only after the fact. They refuse to act pre-emptively," the news service quoted Jamet as saying.

EBay said the company constantly monitors for and removes infringing products.
