Facials..a waste or blessing?

I'm going to have to agree with the more "experienced" girls on this one....It really all depends on WHO you go to.
(I'm sorry for those who had a bad experience)

I get one every 3 weeks at a medi-spa. I don't buy any of their products though....I wash my face with cetaphil, use the neutrogena microdermabrasion once a week & moisturize with Eucerin or ROC products.

All I can say is that my face just feels really clean, like it's breathing. Keep it clean & MOISTURIZED & just find a really good facialist at a reputable business.

Amen to that! I love facials. My face is refreshed after one and it's good for me. I've had facials that have looked good and then turned bad, but when that happened I never went back to that place. It's was obvious that that place wasn't right for me. Now I love the place I go to.:tender:

I think if you don't like them, don't get them. However if you have never had a facial before, please try it if you have the money. You may like it. I want people to come to their own conclusions. We can only give you our opinions and experiences.:flowers:

I love facials due to the feeling of refreshness after the treatment is done. It usually takes a few sessions to see improvements to your skin.

I used to have some acne during college and I'll get extractions in additional to the facial and mask treatments. The treatments will make my skin worst for the first 3 to 5 days after the initial treatment because according to my esthetician, the extraction and mask will push all the dirt from deep within your skin to the surface. That's why your skin will "freak out" the first few days because it's trying to get rid of the dirt/bacteria, but within a week your skin will heal and looking better than before the treatment. That's why they always tell you NOT to get a facial the day before the wedding or prom. With additional treatments, your skin gets better and better but ofcourse it all depends on your skin and the right esthetician.

I don't buy any of their products they promote me since I think they're just a bunch of BS. I'll just tip them more!

HELP! I hear both sides of the story here about facials. My skin is usually clear as the sky but lately I've had two pimples that have been there for a couple weeks despite my trying exfoliating scrub, acne spot treatment products, and hydrogen peroxide to get rid of them...they're still there! I'd like to get a facial (with extractions for the pimples, I guess) to clear up my skin and reduce the size of my pores but I'm worried about getting a worse breakout/reaction for a few days following my facial. I don't want to make my problem worse, even temporarily, if a facial won't do much for me to begin with. Advice, please! Should I get a facial or keep trying to treat my acne (with are few and usually far between) myself? Any recommended spot acne treatment products?
thanks.

You need to see a dermatologist. A facial is fine for pampering but not for treating skin conditions. Maybe you are using products that are exacerbating your skin conditions. You should use a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil for combo skin, 2% beta Hydroxy Acid (This is your "scrub") which will exfoliate deep within the pore & follow with 2-5% benzoyl peroxide. Maybe your foundation is too oily? Do you put moisturizer on your face? Maybe that is causing the problem

A good facialist and good products are key to a good facial. Ask around for recommendations from friends, colleagues and family if you don't know who to go to. And don't be pressured to buy the products they sell. I have a wonderful person I get facials from but typically I don't like most of her line she uses, though oddly, during the facial the products are amazing (many of the products I love in her facial arent available for home use).

i love getting extractions. it's the best part of the facial. i'm sure it's the least favorite for most people but i think that's the essence of a facial. i can massage my face, put mask on and all that at home but can't give myself a thorough extraction. so just for that alone, i think it's worth it!

idk. im sorta on the fence about them. i had one once and after i didn't notice any more of a difference really. i think it really depends WHO you go to. make sure if you go to a salon you book the top facialist there

Facials are a waste. As long as you're consistent at home with facial cleanser, exfoliate, moisturize, toner, and apply day and night creams you should be good to go! Also facial masks works as well and I do those once a week.

When I was young, busy, and single, I got them allll the time. I would hit spas in every city I was traveling in and I loved them on vacay.

But that was my problem - I wasn't consistent. I probably could have had great results from seeing one experienced gal at home! LoL c'est la vie I was always a big fan of microderms and they really gave me peaches and cream, soft glowing skin though. Always.

I need to get my skinny butt back to the spa! LoL

I agree with the other girls in here -- facials are amazing IF you go to the right person. I get one done every 3 months at a spa, but I take good care of my skin regularly so I don't need to go as often. Cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and most importantly SUNSCREEN are vital for me.
