Diamonds and Cost, is it a big deal?

Why don't you just find a reputable jeweler that does custom work and bring a photo of that exact ring in? Bring as many photos as possible, from all angles. Then leave the photo with the jeweler and have your fiance tell him his budget, and have him create that exact ring but tailored to your budget (obviously specify what is most important to you re: the diamond, the setting, etc.).

That's what I did, and I got my dream ring. It's exactly what I wanted, and my husband spent what we could afford.

I did get an engagement ring. It's gorgeous. 1ct princess cut/D/VVS1.

Now all I have to do is pick out a setting. I did find a nice a. jaffe setting and a michael beaudry one. But the michael beaudry setting is $7500 so I'll probably get the Jaffe style for $4000

Beautiful! Congratulations. I think once you have that ring on your finger, all of your past indecisiveness (is that a word? haha) just melts away. Isn't it an amazing feeling?!
