Defective Bearn?

I don't think it is a big of deal unless it really bothers you. My brown vibrato Birkin came with about 1 ~1.5 inches of scratch on the box leather part. I freaked out! But Claude(craftsman in NY) told me that it was nothing, and bags and wallets tend to get scratches anyway even if you try very very hard to keep them perfect condition.

After hearing that, it did not bother me at all. I am very happy to use my vibrato Birkin as my daily bag...

claude is great. he could probably keep me calm if my bag were on fire. he's mellow.

pr1nc355 - your wallet is gorgeous. it doesn't show up at all to me (lilach, impressive), and i have perfect vision. and you didn't see it in the store, or at home until it was under the spot light, being prepped for us  so maybe look at it again in the daylight to decide if you can live with it and enjoy the sh:nuts:cking pink. that color will really pop when you pull it out from your black kelly. wow. otherwise, definitely call and speak with someone who will be working on the day you can come back in, or at least get the name of whomever you speak with to make the arrangements so that you have an SA to refer to.

The color is so special...just pops out at you! LOVE IT and to come out of a black bag...yummy!

You have to be happy, so only you can make the choice. It really doesn't matter what anyone has to say. Just remember your bags/wallets will get moved around and they will shown signs of wear as soon as you start using them. Tough to accept, but they do.

#1 though...you have to be happy!!!

LH, is this the black Bearn? Well, what do you think between the black and the fuschia?

hg, yes it is the black Bearn and it is beautiful!! I sent the fushia back already and honestly loved that one too!! Tough decision, but I think the black is a more classic choice.

 Its a beautiful color! Great purchase! I'm with some of the other posters that it really isn't that noticeable and doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. If you really believe its going to be hard to find that color again, then if I were you I would not take it back. I think its safe to assume that the items sold by Hermes are going to have some slight wear or issues if they ARE being handled by customers.

It seems like I'm in the minority, but I say take it back. For the kind of money Hermes charges, the items should be perfect. Yes, wallets will eventually show wear and tear - but don't you want it to be wear that happened while it was in your hands?

I know myself, and each time I saw those nicks I would get upset...

That's a real pink shocker! Gorgeous though!

So, what did you decide to do? If you are really unhappy, call you SA and inform about the problem. Since you shop there often, they should be there to keep you happy also.

I just called the store, and the person who answered happened to be the same SA who sold it to me (it was the 3rd time I called. I first called at 10:20, then at 10:35, and those 2 times, I got recordings that they were closed and opened at 10:00--not sure what was going on there). She said that she wasn't sure what could've happened to it since she had just opened it before I got there. Anyway, she told me to return whenever I could and she'd have a specialist look at it or see if she could find another one just like it. I really do love it, and it's gorgeous (especially with the black Kelly, yes!), but I won't be happy if it's got defects even before I get to use it. However, I know this color is new and may be hard to find. Maybe if all else fails and I get a store credit, I can use it as a partial payment toward another Birkin.

I decided that I really can't keep this Bearn, unless it's fixed. It's hard to see in the photos I took (again, I have a really old camera, and the only way I can take a pic of anything that'll fit is to take it from far away and crop it, then the pic becomes blurry). The nicks are so deep that I'm seeing little white spots where they are, and the leather is literally raised. I'm hoping that if it can't be fixed or a refund isn't possible, I'll get either another one just like it or get to order a Birkin so that I could use the store credit on something I really want.

lesson learned. when you find the item you want, inspect it with a loop and then personally put it in the box yourself, or else have SA remove all jewelry and file her nails before putting it in the box for you. or leave the store carrying it!
