caffiene is a pregnancy NO-NO

  1. Too much caffeine during pregnancy may increase the risk of miscarriage, a new study says, and the authors suggest that pregnant women may want to reduce their intake or cut it out entirely.

Many obstetricians already advise women to limit caffeine, though the subject has long been contentious, with conflicting studies, fuzzy data and various recommendations given over the years.

The new study, being published Monday in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, finds that pregnant women who consume 200 milligrams or more of caffeine a day -- the amount in 10 ounces of coffee or 25 ounces of tea -- may double their risk of miscarriage.

  2. I haven't read the above article, but on GMA (Good Morning America) they said that women TTC should cut it out as well....

    Bye-bye 3 o'clock choco high....

  3. They also said NO STARBUCKS. I guess starbucks drinks rank high in caffiene... 350 milligrams.

  4. TTC women should cut it out too???? Well that is crap!! I guess one can soda drink a day is okay.

  5. You find differing opinions on this.
Dr Oz says caffeine in moderation is actually a good thing. I limited myself to one cup in the morning in the first trimester- no coffee would have been to much of a shock to my system!!
However, I don't do sodas at all and they have caffeine.

  6. How am I supposed to live without my soy latte? :hysteric:I'm not a coffee drinker, and my soy latte is reserved for special occasions (like after a retail therapy!).

No tea, no latte, no cocoa, no life... only shopping then

  7. Yep, I went cold turkey with the no caffeine thing today and I thought I was going to die. I was depressed, sluggish, and couldn't concentrate. It was awful. My DH says it should get better each day....I certainly hope so or else I'm in trouble.

  8. I tried to quit coffee for one month a couple years ago. I had HORRID constipation throughout. I had to resort to laxatives for the first time ever. It was awful.

I need my one cup per day.

  9. I am so happy that I nor my DH ever drink coffee. I do drink tea though, so I guess I must moderate.
And no red bulls for me anymore!

  10. i drank coffee like twice a day every day while i was pregnant i craved it so much and I had a healthy baby, hes 1 yrs old now...

  11. i drank caffeine too, not everyday, but a few times a week. he was born healthy and my pregnancy was a great experience.(i miss being preggers!! :crybaby:)

  12. it wa weird because I usually never drink coffee..but it helped me go to the bathroom as well...

  13. Well I know diet sodas will be out because of the aspertame or however its spelled. My pregnant friends usually drank a regular caffeinated soda or tea once a day or every other day and their babies were fine.

  14. I know that chocolate has a very small amount of caffiene. Do you ladies think a piece of chocolate would be impactful?

  15. ^ I would think not but am not sure.
