For me, it's a form of non-verbal communication. It's saying, "Hello world, this is me! This is what I like! This is my personality!" It's a way for me to express myself without having to say a word.

And I almost feel that, in society, we've gone a bit too far in the wrong direction. It does bother me when I see person after person trudging through life in pajamas and slippers at the grocery store, or jeans-that-are-so-ripped-their-45-year-old-butt-is-hanging-out, or generally not caring.

Because whether we want to admit it or not, how we dress is telling the world something about ourselves. I wish more people took pride in it.

Dress to impress my dbf most of the time! I agree, I rather be overdressed than under dressed because you just never know what will come up.

I dress for myself. I like to look in the mirror and be happy with the reflection staring back at me. I love clothes and I love dressing up. I also like to look nice for my husband. Eventhough, I know my husband thinks Im beautiful even when Im wearing pajamas and no make-up, I still like to make an effort to look attractive for him. I never want to be one of those frumpy women who just lets themselves go and runs out of the house wearing mom jeans, an old Mickey Mouse T-Shirt, and Keds.

Dressing up is fun! I dress up when I go to a nice restaurant, to see a play, etc.

My everyday wear (for walking around campus) is dressy too, but honestly it takes the same amount of time to put on skinny jeans, boots, and a nice coat as it does to put on sweatpants, a hoodie, and running shoes.

I guess I care about what I wear for the same reason I care about personal hygiene. I wouldn't show up to class with dirty greasy hair either, KWIM?

The main reason why I dress up is for me. I like looking nice, it makes me feel better about myself, and like a lot I'm into fashion so dressing up and combining new things is also a bit of a hobby. Plus, the way I dress reflects my personality and the way I feel that day.

But I have to admit - it's also for the people around me. Of course I like to dress nicely to attract guys - I'm single so why not? When I get into a serious relationship I like to dress nicely for my boyfriend.
Also for girls, though, as I get the idea that nowadays looking nice is a competition between girls.

And very well said canada's, I also think it's better to be overdressed than underdressed. Sometimes you can get some mean comments but that's their own problem.

Indeed. Mean comments=jealousy.

I dress for myself...I feel so much better if I like the way I look and the clothes or accessories that I am wearing!!

i don't really do it for anyone, i just put on whatever i feel like wearing that day, and i do it for me. I'm not really a dressy person i mostly stick to tees, skirts, jeans or khakis and a designer bag and some flip flops, i love the beach look.

I dress well for myself. I don't have anyone to impress and people rarely go out of their way to praise me for my outfits. I hate the idea of going out with pjs, flip flops, old sweaty shirt, runners in fancy restaurants, operas, etc. A pair of nice denims, cute top and flats, carrying a pretty tote - that kind of outfit doesn't take a long time to put together to go out grocery shopping (once I saw a woman with bedroom slippers and hair rollers shopping at Walmart).

I just think that once someone falls into the habit of dressing sloppy, he/she starts acting sloppy too.
