Please help me choose b/w these two trench coats! I'm trying to keep only one of them, but I'm having trouble choosing. Would you go with the black, tan, or go ahead and keep both (can you tell I'm super indecisive?)?

Both will need alterations, the black one, however, will need a lot more than the tan one.

Honestly, I would return both of them. I think that after they get wet and/or you sit in them the back of them with all that frou frou going on, will be a hot mess. The light color one is not that flattering in the front iMO.

If I am honest, I agree with gracekelly. I prefer the first out of the two though.

I think you should return both and buy one that fits without alterations. Both of these completely swamp you!

I agree with the other ladies.

Both are extremely unflattering in the fit and style. They both look like they're 2-3 sizes too large, the pleats are very messy for the black, and I don't get the bow tie and buttons on the beige, very awkward looking for both.

So I'm not going to vote because there's no option for none...

Sorry - one more vote for returning both. They are both too big.

Not a big fan of either, and the black one is simply huge. I can't tell if the tan is too big or just awkward, but neither will be a style that lasts, IMO.

Thanks for all the input ladies! I actually think the back of the tan one is cute, but the front isn't too flattering as some of you said. I notice that some of you said to return them b/c of the size, would you not spend the time and money to alter them?

I don't think I'm 100% in love with them, but it's hard for me to return them b/c I got them at such a steal from the July 4th sale at Saks.

Honestly, as others have said, neither of them look good on you. The styles themselves are not classics. Alterations on items like coats are very difficult to get truly correct - and expensive! Shame you are not able to return them due to the sale - there is another thread about this - just because something is a 'steal' or on sale, doesn't mean its still ok to buy!

If you can't return them, stick them on Ebay and save up for a full priced one that fits you really well. Malene Birger does amazing trench coats, as does Burberry.

Neither of them would require simple alterations. They are both really too big all over, and even assuming you could get the alterations done properly, the cost would negate the savings you got by buying on sale. I don't think either of them are special enough to invest any more in.

You look like you have a cute, petit body. I think you could find something much more flattering.

Either would be a lot of work to get them to fit you nicely since you're currently swimming in them. If I had to choose which I like the style of more, I'd personally go with the black. The buttons up the back of the other one are cute but the front kind of reminds me of the smocks I wore in art class as a child.

dorcast is right. Altering a hem is a simple alteration, but the shoulder seam on the first one is huge, and that requires more or less taking the entire garment apart in order to alter. The alterations would be more than what the coat is probably worth.
