^^This coat is for petit women but it actually looks really nice as a 3/4 sleeve coat....very Audrey Hepburn. I'm going to buy long leather gloves to wear with it. I'm not a fur person either so that bothers me a little but at least it's not the whole coat.

I'm a thrift store virgin too. Think I'll start going as well. Funny thing, I googled "thrift stores" in my zip code and "Old Navy" came up!

I love nothing better than a good bargain, and I'd love to dig around in thrift stores, but I find that it bothers my allergies. I can't stop sneezing.........maybe because the stores are a little musty!

Thanks for this thread - I am going to try some thrifting on Friday - I am on a tight budget, but need some new things for fall and winter.

Tips are appreciated - keep them coming.

I'm a thrift store virgin too. I found a vintage Lillie Rubin coat for $1 at goodwill last week. I also found a kate spade bag for $5, looks real but I will need to post it to confirm authenticity. Thursdays are dollar days at Goodwill.

Be patient, and know what sort of things you are looking for.

I don't tend to shop for clothes at thrift stores, but I'm always on the lookout for vintage jewelry, scarves, glassware and sterling. Know what the good stuff looks like so that you can pick it out much more quickly.

A foolish statement perhaps, but I've found Louis Comfort Tiffany Favrille glass at a charity shop for $0.97-$5. Two other people were standing next to me, one picked it up and put it down. I picked it up, checked all the markings, and made my way to the door!

It depends on your area.

I'd look in a shop in an area right on the outskirts of a very wealthy area - or for shops near where many retired people live.

Keep your mind open to garage sales too. Look for ones that state 'designer' clothing in the ads. Be far warned that a lot of people seem to think the Gap and Ann Taylor are designer apparently. Once in awhile you'll hit the jackpot. Few weeks ago I found a Marc Jacobs dress for $5.

I just started shopping at Buffalo Exchange. They aren't the cheapest but I found the most amazing jacket there for $20.
